Thank you to all of the moderators who have served our community for the last six months! I appreciate each and every last one of you! Thank you for your patience, your dedication to our community and your service!


That said, it's time to hire new moderators for the second half of the year! Moderators are staff positions who work in the Department of Moderators and report directly to the Director of Moderators & Ops. Positions will start on July 1st, 2019 and last for six months. While unexpected things to occur, please commit to the position for the entire term in order to ensure consistency. Previous mods who have enjoyed their positions must reapply.


To apply, please include the following:

  • Why you want to serve as a forum moderator

  • The specific forum or forums you would like to moderate

  • Your previous experience in the Community (and/or ‘Real Life,’ if pertinent)

  • Your usual availability & how often you are online

  • Any ideas that you may have for the department

If you are interested in only one forum to moderate, please use the subject line listed in that forum’s subsection below.


If you are interested in moderating more than one forum, please use the subject line “APPLICATION - MODERATOR - YOURNAMEHERE” and please let me know your 1st choice, 2nd choice, etc if you have a preference.



Requirements for all Forum Moderators:

  • Commitment to impartiality, transparency, and openness in the Department of Moderators

  • Time to actively read threads within their assigned forum(s)

  • Full membership (Citizen or above) in the community for at least 3 months

  • Knowledge of or a willingness to learn vBulletin moderation actions

  • Willingness to remove all users from ‘ignore’ for the period of your service as a moderator

Duties for all Forum Moderators:

  • Reading all threads in your assigned forum(s)

  • Archiving threads as necessary

  • Pruning the forums as necessary

  • Alerting the Director should an issue arise

  • Responding to reports within your forum in a timely manner

  • Working with the Director of Moderators & Ops, fellow moderators, and other Administrators (e.g., Keeper, Director of Membership) to resolve any issues

Here are more details on specific requirements for each forum and how to apply:


General and Frivolous Fun

Please note that these forums do require more reading than others, as they tend to be more active.


I am looking for up to 3 moderators for this forum. If you would like to apply and meet the requirements, please use the subject line "APPLICATION - GENERAL MODERATOR - YOURNAMEHERE".


Current Events

The requirements for moderating are slightly more stringent. To be a moderator of CE, you must:

  • Be a member of the CE usergroup

  • Commit to at least 15 hours a week dealing with moderating Current Events

  • Comport yourself in all debates in the forum during your term as a Moderator, not as a private citizen

  • Set aside all ideological disagreements and act in an impartial capacity during moderation

  • Be able to self-identify when you must recuse yourself from moderation

This is our most time-consuming moderator position and will require close with with myself and your forum co-moderators.


I am looking for two moderators for this forum for the current rotation; the remaining two moderators will rotate in three months’ time. If you would like to apply and meet the requirements, please use the subject line "APPLICATION - CE MOD - YOURNAMEHERE".


Discussion Halls

Discussion Halls moderators are split into two groups. Please make sure that you apply for the correct group when sending in your application. The groups are as follows:

(A) Gaming, Tech Talk, Fine Arts and Literary Pursuits, and Hand Crafts

(B) Education and Employment, Home and Health, Entertainment, and Sports Fanatics

It is a plus for this position if you are relatively active in the forums for your group.


I'm looking for 2 moderators for each group of Discussion Halls forums. If you would like to apply and meet the requirements, please use the subject line "APPLICATION - DISCUSSION HALLS (A) - YOURNAMEHERE" or "APPLICATION - DISCUSSION HALLS (B) - YOURNAMEHERE".


Olde Warder and Hen

Please note that this forum does require more reading than others, as it tends to be more active.


I'm looking for 2 moderators for this forum. If you would like to apply and meet the requirements, please use the subject line "APPLICATION - OLDE WARDER AND HEN MODERATOR - YOURNAMEHERE".


Book Forums

Please note that these positions will be watching over all of the book discussion forums, including non-WoT literature. This means that, if you have not yet read A Memory of Light, you may see spoilers for this book, or other non-WoT books, as a part of your position.


I am looking for 2 moderators for these forums. If you would like to apply and meet the requirements, please use the subject line "APPLICATION - BOOK FORUM MODERATOR - YOURNAMEHERE".

Religion &Spirtuality


As with CE, the requirements for moderating are slightly more stringent. This will be a new forum, and mods will be asked to provide input in the structure of the forum and troubleshoot any issues!

  • Have held a moderator position previously. Senior IRC ops also accepted

  • Commit to dealing with larger issues that come out of moderating Religion and Spirituality – we expect this to be similar to CE: rare, but may add 5-10h to your workload if/when they do occur

  • Comport yourself in all debates in the forum during your term as a Moderator, not as a private citizen

  • Set aside all ideological disagreements and act in an impartial capacity during moderation

  • Be able to self-identify when you must recuse yourself from moderation
I am looking for two moderators for this forum for the current rotation; we may add more to have a similar rotation schedule as CE in the future.

The post says that the term starts on July 1, but hiring doesn't end until July 16. How does that work?

Edit: Also, are you hiring for the TV forum or is that falling under a different category?

That's the Director being slightly creative with the dates because she realized that it was almost the end of June and had to allow at least 2 weeks to hire. :look:
