I am very pleased to present the graphics that go along with our Merit Badge system. That's right; everyone will now have actual, graphical BADGES representing his/her earned badges.

Whether you are extremely interested in the Merit system, indifferent to the idea, have already earned Merits, or have yet to earn Merits, PLEASE join me in thanking our talented artists for their fantastic efforts and beautiful work on this extensive project:

DARIM PELEGRO and VENRIC METHALION

Darim took on this daunting project initially, and laid the groundwork for an excellent, color-coded system of badges. You may find them reminiscent of Scout-type badges, which is intentional, and hearkens back to the origin of the Merits idea itself. Venric later took the project over when Darim was unable to continue, and did an utterly fantastic job of integrating his own artwork, style, and ideas into the lovely framework. I can't thank these two enough for the excellent work they've done for us all. Venric has really gone the extra mile on this of late, and has powered through some last-minute changes, updates, and additions. THANK YOU, DARIM AND VENRIC! Everyone buy them a drink next time you see them.

THE FACTS

- The Merit Badge graphics are available in a phpBB signature-friendly size, intended for use in... signatures. After you earn a badge, you are welcome to copy the relevant 50x50px image from the Library pages and use it APPROPRIATELY in your signature, if you would like to do so. You are not required to do this. Merit Badge images in signatures are still subject to the existing signature guidelines of TarValon.Net.

- Merit Badge graphics are available in a larger, detailed size for official site use. This is the larger, 300x300px size you will see in the Library. This size is NOT appropriate for signature use on the boards (too large). We may offer site merchandise in the CafePress shop with these graphics, if people are interested in such products. However, these are mainly intended for use on individual members' Who's Who pages in the site Wiki (scaled as needed).

- Library and Who's Who integration of Merit Badge images will occur over time, as the Library staff are able to systematically add it to individual profiles. If you have questions, please contact the Librarian and/or the Archivist.

- Small, "micro"-sized images will also be made after the switch to vBulletin later this summer. Very simple gold and silver versions of each badge category will be shown under individuals' avatars on the boards (according to what that individual has earned, of course). There will necessarily be a limit to how many badges will be displayed in this fashion. When the time comes to incorporate these images onto the boards, more information will be given.

Get on with it, eh? Here come the pretty pictures.

SEE THE MERIT BADGES HERE

*Note: To see the exact name of each Merit, or which specific Merit an image represents, hover your mouse over the image and its label will appear.

And here is a handy chart showing all of them together:

And HERE is the page all about Merits if you would like to refresh, with graphics added.

Finally, HERE is an initial example of what the Merit Badges will look like on individual members' Who's Who pages.

Thanks are also due to Jeffan for coding these initial pages in the Library and hosting the graphics there so members can access them as needed. \o/

If you have questions about the Merits themselves or the Merit system, please contact the Archivist or Keeper. This thread is just to give you all a chance to see the graphics, and to recognize our excellent artists for their time and efforts!

I should also point out that many others on the Graphics team within Marketing have had a hand in this project, and as such, they are all awesome. :fistbump

Also, to clarify on question-asking: if you have questions about how to appropriately use the graphics, by all means, you can post here or contact Marketing directly.
