Dancing on a table in Michigan!
Hey all!

As I'm sure some folks have noticed in the past day or so, we've made a few minor changes to the site that we'd like to share with you real quick.

1- We've retired the previous TVT format and the XenPorta2 plugin that we used to manage it.
2- We've added a new link for our blog, which is the new evolution of the TVT, and embedded it up on the menu bar. Jeffan talks more about these changes here!
3- The old, unused site calendar has been removed.
4- Menu tabs have been reorganized for ease of use for the community.

If you have any questions or concerns with the new changes from a technology perspective, please reach out to our Director of Technology, Deoan, at technology@tarvalon.net. If you have questions about the new Blog and the TVT, please reach out to our Director of Marketing, Jeffan, at marketing@tarvalon.net. You can also feel free to reach out to either myself (keeper@tarvalon.net) or the Amyrlin (amyrlin@tarvalon.net) for any questions or comments you may have.

Thank you, and enjoy! :D

Not gunna lie, the new format for the side bar with the "new profile posts" is not something that I am overly fond off..

I was under the assumption that our "profile pages" were for like birthday greetings and welcome messages from the Welcome Team. If this is not the case, is there a way to limit the updates that we can see?

That's true, the profile page messages are like pseudo-private messages from one person to another, not something that I think should be advertised to the whole site.

I agree with Elania and Ahmyra Sedai.
If I remember correctly at the beginning you can't PM to somebody and to leave a message on the private profilboard is a good way to get in touch to people... but that should not be annouced to the whole forum...

See, I like having the "status updates" thing, but I also understand that it's traditionally been used in lieu of PMs, because not everybody can get them.

I guess it's kind of a question of how long it will take for users to adjust their view of how it's supposed to be used.

So then what would the alternative be for leaving messages for people who can't get PMs? Open them up to non-citizens? I'm guessing that restriction is in place for spam reasons. Can we make it so that visitors can receive PMs and reply to those they get, but not make their own until they become Citizens? Then we could use the status thing as statuses instead.

This is exactly the thing. Right now it's full of welcomes, birthday wishes, etc. If you want to change it to more of a "status update", then really by default we should be restricting who can post on each others' profile pages. Since this showed up, I have personally restricted my profile messages so that no one can leave them for me, because I do NOT want them advertised publicly.

And to me, this isn't social media, but it seems like that is where TV wants to go - to be a social media type site. Which is fine, just not my thing. I'll keep my status updates to facebook. I've already pretty much started ignoring the stuff on the side - hopefully anything interesting will be in a post somewhere. :)

Also.. if it really is just for "status updates" type posts - then really it should be renamed to Status Update .. instead of "New Profile Posts" ;) If you really want to get into the nitty gritty.

*Joins the "Get Off My Lawn" crowd* :p

I hate social media and will not use it. I also dislike the New Profile Posts thing, though I understand that others may like it. So long as I don't actually have to use it myself I can probably live with it.

But, I love everything else! Thank you Tech Team for everything! :hug :dance

I was rather taken aback by it when I noticed it. Profile posts, while public, are also semi-private to my view of things. Everything doesn't need to be out there. :cheeseeni:

Still, many thanks to everyone who works behind the scenes to keep things going as they ought! :beer

I don't like the status updates either, and I restricted my profile messages like Qamra did.

The new profile post tab is not new though :look: It has been available under the "new post" tab for a while...

It is new to the home page, though.

I don't really care about the Profile posts either way but I would love to see "New Posts" back near the top of the side column.

I actually like seeing that section! Now, I don't know if I need to see the "individual posts" to people's profiles, but I like seeing the status updates for those that choose to use them. It actually makes it relevant.

I think I've posted a couple of status updates, but then realized no one would really see those unless they went directly to my page which is probably almost never.
