...is half of her hair pink and the other half blonde, or is that just the picture?

I agree, when the character is named Sunhair, it is sort of important.
Otherwise, it is not really that big a deal, but as a courtesy to fans, they should try to not change it that much :)

I can't imagine why they wouldn't case a black woman to play Tuon. I am sure other characters could end up being case as epople of color even if the book character isn't. I mean, is there any reason Berelain couldn't be a beautiful woman of any race? Fans always holler and cry if the person cast as a character doesn't naturally match the eye and hair color of their character, but that's just silly. Those things can be changed, aren't ever the most important aspect of the character, and can be looked over for a person who can do justice to the substance of the character they are being cast to play.
With the exception of Ilyena Sunhair, I agree. :p

YES. YES TO ALL OF THIS.

That can be played by Nicki Minaj :rofl

I would like to think that movies like Black Panther have shown the powers that be, that powerful black women work well, and they would want to cash in on that!

I agree. I think the tricky thing for many people will be the presented race of the Two Rivers. Andor as a whole has obvious ties to England and many Andorans seem to be white, but don't the Two Rivers folk have darker skin? Is that just a function of their location or are they actually of a different race than Andorans?

Well, they seem to claim their roots from Manetheren, which actually only extended up to about Baerlon and then in the other direction crossed the mountains into modern Ghealdan. So it's possible that they're more ethnically similar to those people instead? Do we have a description of what they tend to look like? Our library says they tend to be dark of hair and eye but doesn't quote a source. So that would match the Two Rivers folk.

I always tend to think of the Two Rivers folk as being Welsh rather than English, and the Welsh can be rather swarthy in comparison to the rest of the Brits. Catherine Zeta-Jones is a good example. That was always my take on it, anyway. I don't really care for most of the characters, so long as they remain consistent (so Rand will always look Aiel rather than Andoran, for example).

That makes sense, and I would agree that many of the characters can be interpreted differently except for a few with distinctly described appearances.

I agree, the Two Rivers area always seemed to have a lot of Celtic influences. However, within that is going to be a lot of variations. My grandmother's family is Scots Irish, so we tend to vary from very pale skin, eyes, and blonde hair varying from reddish blonde to an almost brown kind of dark blonde to very dark, swarthy skin and black hair even between siblings. However, brown/black hair and dark eyes with pale skin is the norm for most of my cousins.

A Welsh or generally Celtic take on the Two Rivers sounds great to me, not just with regard to appearance but also considering that some of the names are spins on ones of Welsh origin (well, Egwene/Guinevere/Gwenhwyfar being the only example off the top of my head, but I like that one a lot).

Lok is Australian from Scots Irish stock and his mum's side of the family is very much dark scots, dark brown hair and brown eyes and gets very tan

Dancing on a table in Michigan!
And then there’s my husband of straight Scots stock who was light haired and has blue eyes, with three pale, light haired daughters. :p

Ah, genetics.

Soooo I've kind of been on a Supernatural kick lately, and a certain actor from that would be extremely plausible as either Tam, Lan, Taim, or Logain.

My reasoning behind some of the choices is that yes, we're all in agreement that the main young people need to be played by unknowns, BUT a show like this just isn't going to have much of an existing fan base when it first starts, other than those of us who have read the books. If there are massively popular celebrities from the sci/fi-fantasy genre but who have also branched out into other genres playing the older characters and the side characters who interact with Rand, Mat, Perrin, Egwene, and Nynaeve, then I think the show would be able to go a long way right from the beginning, more so than not having those names attached. There are characters who have a certain grittiness about them because they've spent years in that world fighting the things that Rand and company have to learn about as they go. Seasoned, well-known actors would do a lot for those parts.

I can totally see him as Logain or Taim! Don't know about Tam or Lan though . . .

I don't think he looks old enough for Tam or Lan, but it depends on how "old" they want them to look in the series...

I really hope they try to stay mostly faithful to the books. I get that some liberties might need to be taken for adaptation purposes, but I hope they are considerate and do it well.

They should be aware that this series have a lot of detailed fans. Much more so than GoT I think...

But yes, some things will have to be changed. The roles will need to be reduced, and some side-plots may be dropped...

I agree the show will probably need some better known actors.

I can totally see Jensen Ackles as Logain. Maybe a little too old but would work.

The problem with that is, if more known actors are to draw people to the show, then they need to be in from the beginning. So possibly Lan, or Thom...
