So I am jumping in, at last. I've read the membership manual and some of the other material (I LOVE the library!) I'm not very used to forums, and I've put off posting because I do feel a little overwhelmed by the sheer size of TarValon.net! So any help would be appreciated. I was going to join, and discovered that I'm already a member here from 2013 - probably because it was recommended at JordanCon in that year, and I rushed out and joined everything in sight!

I'd like to get involved more in the various WoT communities because although I'm in a few WoT groups on FB, there aren't really any folk I'd call 'friend' and I'd like to change that. (I have joined the Black Tower under the name of Haeva Stone).

My current job is too boring to mention, so I'll stick with two of my former careers - a librarian and a sailor - since they make me sound a lot more interesting ;) But I concentrate more of my energies in my own interests, which besides WoT include Aikido, Bellydance, British History (1760-1830) and Irish/Scottish Mythology.

Other books I enjoy include Tolkien's Middle Earth material; the Valdemar series by Mercedes Lackey; the Dragon Prince series by Melanie Rawn; the Books of Magic (a comic series) started by Neil Gaimon, but by various writers; the Dragonlance stories by Weis and Hickman (but not so much the rest of them); Georgette Heyer (author); the Ramage series by Dudley Pope; I think my favourite besides WoT is the Rose of the Prophet series, also by Weis and Hickman.
I don't get much chance to watch TV these days, but I like Star Trek, Dr Who, Torchwood, StarGate SG1, Buffy, Charmed, Heroes. The more modern series seem to be limited to the Vampire Diaries and Supernatural at present.

My favourite WoT character is Cadsuane. I want to be just like her when I grow up ;) Logain also comes quite close. There are others in the 'favourites' list, but I'll be here all day if I go through them all.

Hi Jaedan. :) Welcome to the site! :welcome I remember when I first joined, I had never posted on any Forums before. I think the best piece of advice I can offer is to not be afraid to join conversations in threads that are already "in process". It was just the most intimidating thing for me. People are very nice and helpful, and we will help you out if you run into anything confusing!

Supernatural and Rose of the Prophet...I like you already! :)

Were you in the Navy,or some other sort of sailor? Who's your favorite Doctor?

Oh, and if you have any questions for us, by all means, fire away! We're a friendly bunch, so try not to let the size of the place freak you out :)

:welcome

Hi Jaedan, and welcome to Tar Valon! My husband is starting to dip his toes into aikido. He came home from his first lesson last week all bubbly about learning to fall. I look forward to seeing you around the forums & getting to know you better! :D

Thank you all so much for the wonderful welcomes; I'm glad I've finally taken the plunge!
To answer some questions:

Cahalan Sothron - I worked on Square-rigged ships; mostly films and tourism; I'm afraid I wasn't in the Navy. But it was an awesome experience.
My favourite Doctor is David Tennant, although I also adore Peter Davidson. I haven't watched much 'Who' since Tennant left, though. I keep meaning to catch up.
It's wonderful to meet anyone else who has read Rose of the Prophet; most people don't know these books exist :(

Alora Sionn - Always happy to talk about Star Trek, History and Mythology; are there any forums dedicated to these?

Rhed al'Tere - Ah yes; learning to fall is always a big achievement because you find you do so much of it ;)

Kyla Sterling - Always good to meet those similarly interested; any places in the WT you recommend?

Analiese Sinclaer - I've been bellydancing since January 2010 and belong to a troupe called Kasbah. We're doing a lot of traditional stuff at present, but I'm hoping to develop more as a soloist and move into Fusion, Rock and Goth in the future.

Perriel Jeotaura - Thank you :)

It's great to meet so many people so early on with whom I have so much in common :D Really looking forward to getting to know everybody.
