I asked my husband, who hadn't seen it at all while I was working on it, what he saw (without "leading the witness") and he said he saw hands, but it took him a minute to realize what he was seeing.

What is the significance of the 27 blocks in the circle, and the spacing of the 10 green bits, and the way the circle is rotated slightly off-centre? Would I be correct in assuming that the green blocks are supposed to represent the white marble from which a lot of the city is built?

The blocks started out just under the bridge (like the one you see here, framing the bridge (it's kinda a bad photo but i couldn't find another one). But when we added the bottom it didn't look right, so we continued the blocks around the entire inside. The number is insignificant, we just went on what size we liked.

The placing on the blue/green blocks is just more of an abstract pattern to break up the tan colour.

I... Every time I look at it, I pretty much have to will myself to see the middle portion as hands. It might help if they weren't split on a perfectly horizontal plane: that sets up a ground/sky effect with the hands, making the white space and the white lines seem to be a unified object of some kind, mysterious though it's shape is.

We went through a lot of designs, and a variety of people and feed back, and this was what was decided, and agreed upon. :)

Great work Graphics Team! I'm very happy that the Citizens and Resident Citizens have a logo of their own now. :)

I saw hands right away btw.. but I just want to say this.. just to 'change' things up a bit you took the aes sedai symbol and made it the ying yang with out the dots.. just saying the symbols were already always very close.. for someone new to WoT who join us this might leave it a bit more confusing.. *shrugs* I'm not a cit not my logo but just saying.. that totally takes it away from WoT. (the symbol in the bridge).. OR it might even look like we don't care to get it right or ignorant of what we are a fandom of.. just my two cents.. but as it's "final" and not getting a change at all .. I guess that's that.

I'm still seeing the weird white center first and having to actually focus on the hands... but I do like it.
Same here. The white just stands out so much that it's what my eye latches on to first. If I focus on "those are hands", though, I can see it, and it's pretty when I look at it that way. :)

This is pretty much what I was thinking, I was just afraid of voicing it myself.

Honestly, it went through so many edits, and the hard work put into it..
And if I am honest, as a whole I think adding the extra line detracts from the simplicity we were trying to go for. :look:

That is to say, minor edits for around the site personal use is okay. :)

Might I ask how Stephans edit takes away from the sense of simplicity? I don't understand how the addition of a few extra lines makes it any less quick'n'simple.

[STRIKE]Oh, and here's my own tidbit, why are the railings on the bridge an unbalanced number? It's kinda off-putting whenever I look at it now because it seems to make the dotless yin/yang symbol seem even further off center then it really is.[/STRIKE]
Note: Never mind that^, I recounted the railings and turns out I probably need to go back and redo all my math classes

I know that many people have comments, questions, criticisms, suggestions, etc. And while everyone is, of course, welcome to express their opinions I would like everyone to keep in mind a few things:

1. This logo is the result of a group of people putting in a lot of time and thought.

2. It is for the Citizens. Their input was sought early and often in the process of developing a logo. The Citizens who contributed are, I think, pleased with the end result.

3. It has been made clear that changes will not be made to this logo, that it is complete. Additionally it has been made clear that if a person wants to make minor edits to the logo for personal use on the site, that is fine.

I point all of this out not as someone who had any part in the development of this logo but as someone who knows that the Graphics Team is VERY small and does a HUGE amount of work for the site with very little recognition.

TL;DR = a few thank yous to the Graphics Team and Citizens who worked on this would probably be appreciated.

:hug Thank you Mai. You might just out-Gray me yet. ;) :gray

Mai has it right. On all of her point. We are a very limited group with a very limited set or resources. This is actually the only logo we spend (our) money on for some of the resources. It wasn't easy, be even still we are very happy with the results.

1. The Bridge "Flame" isn't "just a change up". We went through a few variations, and this one fit best in terms of colors, lines, and scale. Ironically it was not intended to be "backwards" because it isn't. Otherwise the flame and fang would be turned the other way. They are an Inverse of color and are no different than any other version of the logo. The flame itself is the color of the background instead of it's own color, which looked -really- weird and out of place. Think of it an inset shadow instead. That was the intent.

2. The hands went through many variations. Dnae did a fantastic job with these hands (hand drawn!!!) and they filled the space and set the logo apart as hands holding one another, which was the intent. We also went through A HUGE amount of Hand positions for the Yellow Ajah, when we were brainstorming their logo. Hands are beautiful but also one of the most awkward things to position. What you 'think' looks good just looks weird with the design. These fit great with and without the bridge/shield. It was hard to argue what worked, and I don't want to fix something I do not see as broken. <3 <3 <3

Everyone is going to have their own personal opinion, and I respect that. But as Mai eloquently put it, the collective that did have input though out the process are happy with it.

Sorry to hear this isn't up for feedback at this time. A simple rotation of maybe 55 degrees or so on the hands would go a long way to alleviating the problem many of us noticed.

Let me also be clear: beyond that, it looks good. :)

I had questions and queries and now they have been answered, I am content. And Mai and Arie are right, thank yous are in order, so thanks and awesome work. And I understand how much of a bother it can be to make logo's and whatnot, but I suspect this was more difficult than one of my high school grade assignments
