It is super fun. I grew up with Mardi Gras every year so I don't know what it would be like to be without it. It is a all night event; if you are going to a ball then you have to dress in a gown or tails. There is food and drink in excess and dancing. Of course if you are just going to the parade there are huge floats with member of the organization riding on top throwing stuff to the crowds below.

And then there's the Polish Mardi Gras tradition of making pączki (pronounced "poonch-kee"). They look like bismarks or jelly doughnuts, but have some notable differences. Check out https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pączki#Description for more on them.

I was just at a family dinner and my sister-in-law gave her father a box of these, and we'd never heard of them before. Thanks for the unexpected but timely information!

This Mardi Gras sounds so fun :pleased-1: We don't have this tradition in Bulgaria although in Western Europe there are several carnivals in this period, like the one in Venice

Me too. :( I'm eating ALL THE THINGS. Not sweets though... I've been really craving salty lately.

With me, it's an endless cycle of feeling like sweets after savoury, and feeling like savoury after sweets. :x
