I saw your post in academics, very awesome what you study. I study agricultural history in Indiana, but now in Ireland. A little similar to you, have you ever read any of Michael Pollan's work? Or Thomas Malthus?

Narysse Sedai, I am new to TarValon and while reading through various threads in the forum I found an older one about describing your profession in the simplest terms possible. When I saw your description of being a medical anthropologist I was instantly excited! I am a naturopath and also LOVE cultural anthropology.
I recently took a class through Rutgers about Medical Literacy and one of the examples they used was the high rate of colon cancer in native Inuit tribes in Alaska and surrounding areas. Turns out that even though many Of those they interviewed can read English as a second language they do not have words for many of our medical terms in their native language - terms that we use in advertising and literature to encourage pre-screening, etc. Anyway, I would love to hear more about your work!
