Imzadi I picked when I joined IRC, I needed a nick pretty fast, so I ran into the livingroom, looked at the books cover and found the book Imzadi (yes, from Star Trek) and since I've been using it... Actually it's soon 20 years ago...
I own that book! :D

I don't really remember how I chose my name because it was ten years ago. I might have used a generator to get ideas, and then modified one. I later realized that my first username shares many of the same letters as my middle real name (Lianne), so there might have been some sort of natural affinity there. I don't know why I chose al'Manir, or even a Two Rivers name in general. I also joined before encountering the character Elenia, and once I did, it made me simultaneously happy and mad that they were so similar. On the one hand, I came up with a name that was pretty similar to one that RJ made up. On the other hand, she's not a nice person and it made me feel less unique. I've been using this name or variations of it for ten years now though, so I feel very connected to it. Variations include Lanya (for simplicity and pronunciation) and Uhlahnya (Elania was taken, and this was a somewhat phonetic spelling).

I've also played around making usernames from other sites and RPGs (D&D and Pathfinder) from the Old Tongue.

Mine is a reworking of my paternal grandmother's maiden name, Mabel Rhodes. She passed away when I was 5 years old and I wanted a way to connect with her after all these years.

I've been using a variation of this name for things for a bit over a decade now. The reasoning:

Autumn is my favorite season. My birthday is in the Autumn, September, and my birthstone is sapphire and my favorite color happens to be blue. So, I just modified "Sapphire" to "Sapphira". :)

That's so sweet! I wish mine had an interesting story attached.

Well, Roheryn comes from Tolkien's works, it is Sindarin for "horse(or steed) of the lady). It is the name of Aragorn's horse in the books.

That's very cool, Roheryn Sedai. I suppose you can't go wrong there! Is it pronounced the way it looks? When I say it it sounds similar to that of the Rohirrim, the horse people. In the movies that is one of my favorite pieces of music. Thank you for sharing!

Saowynn Ardashir is one of my WoT role-playing characters. Her first name was, in part, because I wanted a shorter version I like, such as Wynn. Ardashir (still missing that r on the end of it!) is a Persian name, having been the name of a Shah during the Sasanian empire. I thought it made a great Aes Sedai name, particularly since I was making the character from Arad Doman. If I remember correctly, it means something like "divine right to rule".

Your name is quite lovely. My own last name (and Elyss of course) I chose from the Persian language as well. Kohinoor means "mountain of light". I also like Persian food :)

And if one wanted to know where to find a WOT role-playing game (although one really should be working *cough, cough) where would she look?

Raena is a character in a book series (Deverry Cycle by Katharine Kerr) that I happened to be reading 9 years ago when I had to pick a name. My husband picked the last name Tigana when he joined, and when we got married I switched to the same name. It is the title of his favourite book by Guy Gavriel Kay. :)

Once you become a Citizen, you will be able to see this one really handy thread that we have about how to pronounce everyone's names here. :D

Raena, Tigana was one of the first fantasy books I ever read! I JUST mentioned it to someone the other day. When I saw your name the other day I wondered if that was the connection or just a coincidence. How cool!

That's one of my favourite pieces of music, too! :joy

My name is kind of loosely based on Aletheia (which means truth, or un-forgetting) and Mnemosyne (who was the Greek goddess of memory and remembrance). Around the time I joined the site, I had a big interest in remembering certain things and forgetting others (a sentiment which is also carried through the books in a way, particularly with regard to the turning of the Wheel) so it seemed rather appropriate.

I have no idea how to pronounce it though! When I joined the site, I never actually considered the possibility of meeting other members IRL and having to say my name out loud (the Events forum wasn't public back then) so I didn't worry about coming up with a pronunciation. I myself probably say it differently every time, and I'll answer to any reasonable attempt.

Thank you! I am quite enamored with ancient Persia, which I got sucked into while studying Zoroastrianism. I'd love to try the food sometime. I love new food :)

And sadly, the place where I used to role-play WoT closed, which is how I found myself here. There are still some sites out there, though, if you look :)

Roheryn is mostly pronounced that way. Row-here-in
But most people just call me Roh (pronounced Row) for short. :D

Also, my other half keeps telling me that since I'm riding to the aisle for our wedding that I should ride there to "Forth Eorlingas" I'm strongly considering it... :giggle

I've been pronouncing it "row-hair-in" :look:

Also, I agree with your other half. I'm a little disappointed in myself that I didn't have the guts to play the ending ceremony theme from A New Hope for my wedding. You should do it!!! (I just recently attended a wedding that played something from Halo for the processional, and then Tank! from Cowboy Bebop for the introducing-the-wedding-party-at-the-reception song. It was very cool.)

Roheryn Sedai,
I would SO have that playing as you ride down the aisle! I used completely different music for my wedding, not the typical stuff at all. And I chose passages from the Faerie Queen and Shakespeare's sonnets too, so I'm sure there were plenty of people there who's worst fears that I am a hopeless rebel was confirmed, lol. I say rock it and enjoy yourself!

And I just love the fact you have Klinger in your sig!
