We will be performing site maintenance next weekend to upgrade the server software our site runs on. This will bring better performance and more importantly, more security!
What
We will be migrating our site over to use Nginx web server software (we are currently using lighttpd). We will then be installing an SSL/TLS certificate which will allow us to take advantage of HTTPS protocol for users' security.
If you recall, this is something we tackled last October and had to rollback due to some strange issues. We have those resolved now, thankfully.
When
I am planning on beginning this maintenance Fri Aug 8 or Sat Aug 9, depending on availability. It should only take one night but I'm blocking off the whole weekend as potential downtime in case we need more time or things get delayed.
Impact
The site will be up and down for up to several hours. I'll communicate with the Tower Voices via our social media channels, as well as be available in IRC. Party times!
