So my son ( he is 12), has actually read farther in the Wheel of time than I have. Im on book 6 he is on book 11! LOL
So we are discussing favorite characters and he doesn't seem to have any Real favorite when I ask him. Finally Yesterday he says he really likes...... Galad! :embarassed:
So im obviously fairly Horrified!!! LOL
He says its not his absolute favorite , yet getting my son to talk is hard even for me. Hes just an exceptionally quiet and thoughtful young man. So this is the closest hes come to talking about a character he liked. I didn't ask him trhe particulars because I am almost afraid to!!

Is my lil,boy a Whitecloak!!!!!!????? :brown-blink:

Does Galad get ANY more likable by the 11th book!!?? I know hes a great fighter and for a Whitecloak hes not as bad as MOST? But DAAAYYYUUMMMM!

Galad does get a little better:look:

I can't say anything else other than don't judge his choice before you have read the same book. I think I know which scene triggers it ;)

Yeah, not to give spoilers but by the end of the series I have to say I become a Galad fan (used to hate him and prefer Gawyn, now, its the opposite :look:) so don't worry  let your son be your motivation for catching up with I'm in the books, or as a fun thing, have him read them to you if he is willing! Father son bonding moment and also get him to open up a bit more (nothing wrong with being quiet but it can help get is public speaking confidence up :))

I'm still a Gawyn fan, but Galad gets a touch more likeable. The books are a great way to bond with your son.

Galad is still far and away not my favorite, but I definitely liked him by the end of the series, which I certainly didn't for the first many books.

Same here. Besides I don't like his siblings (though Gawyn is a bit better than his sister, I suppose :p )

Galad is Galad and always be Galad, but he does gain wisdom to channel his..... Galad-ness?

Galad gets a whole lot better. By the end of the books, he was my favourite of the 3 siblings by far.

I've always sorta liked Galad too, and I can see how he'd be influential to a young boy. He has his flaws but so do all the characters. Best thing to happen to the Whitecloaks in my opinion and he does get better later in the series.

Oh that's too funny! I'm on book 6, too, so right now Galad is... lame. I think I would be a bit alarmed as well! My oldest is 8 and does read ahead of her grade level but I think she could use another couple years before sharing the series with her. Even I regularly have to look up some words Jordan uses so I could see it being frustrating for her... maybe.

I'm on book 6 right now as well, and I used to waaay prefer Gawyn to Galad, but at this point...Gawyn is majorly disappointing me, and Galad is kind of redeeming himself (though still not a fan). Curious to see where both of them go.

Gawyn's arc is certainly disappointing to me, especially after we meet the grinning red-haired Mr. Sarcasm in the first 3-4 books. As far as Galad and Whitecloaks... The Whitecloaks actually have an incredibly admirable theology, especially through the occasional Lothar Mantelar quote we get. Pedron Niall is a great character too; there are lots of respectable Whitecloacks. It's just that the Carradins and Valdas tend to become the image of the Whitecloaks as a whole (which is a mistaken impression). Oh, and let's not forget Bornhald senior! Despite his Perrin issues, he's a remarkble fellow.
