So as i read the first four books again i am being a litle more careful about trying to actually interpret all of the dreams that the different characters have ( and yes, it is sometimes difficult!). But i was wondering...When Jordan describes different people in dreams that interact with the main characters, he often gives us clothing styles that to me at least, seem like he is describing OUR OWN 19th /20th century fashions? and sometimes Architecture seems to remind me of OUR own worlds 19th / 2oth century? Am i just tripping out ? or does anyone else get this vibe? I just cant shake the feling that as i think of the age of legends, Lews Therin and the hundred , etc etc ....That Their world during that period was reminiscent of our own modern world , and the "legends" that are spoken of arent ONLY the one powers doing, BUT a result of a VERY VERY scientificaly advanced society? not unlike our own. At different times i even feel like he is trying to describe airplanes, trains etc etc....
Let me know if i am just way off base?? LOLOLOL

Its almost like 20th century Earth was the AGE OG LEGENDS, and the books are in the later ages After this one, where things have become less scientifically advanced again? if that makes sense?

The Age of Legends was a mixture of science and the One Power, so Jo-wings would be like our airplanes, but non polluting. It isn't clear if they would run directly off the power, or if the power could be used to create an energy source, or some other alternative. There are hints, especially in the early books, to suggest our age is the one before the age of Legends

Thank You! :) I like to think an age similar to our own was the Age of legends! maybe it was our Earth...in the year 3000? When we rediscovered the One power and how to wield it? LOL

ON the audiobooks Robert Jordan is interviewed at the end of them and this was one of the answers he gave. He said that it WAS his intention to portray our world through the eyes of a 'new age' that is not as advanced!

I really like that theory :) I had often thought things like sho-wings and jo-cars (?) sounded very much like planes and cars... But there were enough differences about the AoL that meant it obviously wasn't strictly our time period. The idea of Merk and Mosc... I'd never picked up on that. Fascinating stuff!

Though being picky, Queen Elizabeth has many titles (including "Defender of the Faith" - interesting, huh? :waggle) but she is Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Not Queen of England :embarassed:

Unless it meant Elizabeth I, who was queen before the act of Union. I'll have to check later and edit if it is wrong or unclear

Like I said, I know I'm being picky :rofl

I suppose it could've meant Elizabeth I, as she was a pretty amazing Queen :) (And yes, Queen of England )

I'm picky, too, because the theory has one breaking of the world too much.

Merk (America), Mosc (Moscow/Russia), Artur Paendrag (Arthur Pendragon?), The Cold War. The most connections we have to our present timeline and a little before in Wheel of Time is from Thom, when he converses with Elayne. So basically, thanks to the Breaking of the World, humanity got clubbed all the way back to a medieval level of technology.

Interestingly, I remember watching some years back, a National Geographic episode that spoke of a man who lives with wolves. They did a scene where they blended the guys eyes with a wolf's, and if I remember correctly, he called himself a brother with his pack...a wolfbrother. The first one. Coincidence? I think not! And if that's not enough, there's always the Jungle Book. Mowgli is definitely a Wolfbrother. :P

So, ladies and gentlemen, I've said it before. We live in interesting times. Keep your eyes out for the most beautiful woman that ever lived (Mierin/Lanfear), and maybe, with Robert Jordan's forewarnings, we can prevent the Dark One from escaping the Bore. Or we can just let the Wheel weave as the Wheel wills, and have everything RJ wrote about play out as he said it would.

Absolutely. When you can take familiar material and rewrite it to make it your own..then you are a genius!

okay, I like the idea of this being a bit before the age of legends, perhaps we learn of the one power, or its something genetically engineered into us.. but then.. what/who are the ogier? )

Aliens!

Actually, a slightly more serious, but probably not very satisfactory answer, is that RJ once said he's not too worried about origins of different species. I am too lazy to look up the quote, but someone once asked him how all the species that go extinct come back again. He basically said the view of the world/time as a wheel was made from a medieval point of view, and so he wasn't overly concerned about ALL the things being scientifically accurate. I'd imagine Ogier fall into more or less the same category (but it's possible there's a quote out there that actually answers your question).
