Rand, supposedly, got all the memories of his past lives when he molded with Lews Therin. However, he was surprised to discover that killing the DO would be essentially Turning everyone to the Light and would remove all tangible progress. If he had experienced this battle with the DO before, he would have remembered it and would know he could not kill the DO and save humanity. This leads me to believe that Rand's encounter with the DO may have been a unique event thus far in the Turnings of the Wheel, and that potentially even the Drilling of the Bore may have been itself unique. Either way, something special happened this turning that has not happened before, and so the ending we got may be more permanent than previously thought.

This is I think true, though I would have thought that the Dark One would have those memories, so would have a very good idea of how the pattern of the age would go

I don't think so. I think the memories that you're referring to are Lews Therin's memories. Rand didn't have memories from his every incarnation as the Dragon throughout all of eternity.

If I remember correctly, it was said that the prophecy about the two men merging, one living and one dying, could not be about Rand and Lews because Rand had merged with all his past lives.

I always thought that Rand only gained Lews Therin's memories, not all of his past incarnations. If he had, he would've been able to remember things from ages long past, yet only the Age of Legends is mentioned.

It was not about LT - it was about Moridin - but this isn't because he merged with all of his past lives.

Rand consistently refers to himself in the book as being several hundred years old, but if he had memories of all his past reincarnations he would be basically infinite - not just his lifespan plus LT's.

OK. I guess I'm grasping at straws, because, well, this ending doesn't seem like much of an ending. I mean, I liked it, but it has to keep happening again and again, and as I pointed out in a previous tread, it has to at least be done differently next time because the DO can just deny the Forsaken the TP and ruin Rand's plan.
