There isn't a lot I dislike so far, personally, but I noticed people getting salty in the midst of other people celebrating, and in my experience in other communities, it helps a lot to give both perspectives a place to let loose without talking over each other.

So.

What did you dislike about the trailer?
What worries you the most about the changes to canon?
Are you concerned these changes will negatively impact the WoT fandom community?

I ask you to steer clear of casting decisions; otherwise, anything is fair game.

(I'm unsure if this requires stating, but if someone dislikes some aspect of the trailer that you did like...please don't argue with them. Go talk about what you liked in one of the other threads and let this thread be salty in peace. :p)

Plot-related salt: It looks like they've decided to rename Emond's Field to "Two Rivers" and I'm wondering how on earth that's supposed to work long term, given Perrin's storyline in TSR. :cheeseeni:

I'm bothered that we're probably not going to see Caemlyn (including Morgase, Elaida, Elayne, Gawyn, and Galad). Though that's something that I've been sad about for awhile and isn't necessarily tied directly to the trailer.

I'm salty we didn't get to see Loial. I was looking forward to seeing what they do with make up effects.

I'm bothered that the White Tower isn't "shining." I always imagined it more like a spire and the Tower in the trailer, while clearly massive, is more squat and practical. I understand it, but I don't necessarily like it. It looks like it still has scaffolding around it like it's still being built. It's scruffier than I imagined.

On a less salty and more OCD note, I'm bothered that when Moiraine takes her hood down, she catches a piece of her hair. And that one guy dancing during Bel Tine who doesn't back up quite fast enough to make it a nice, neat circle.

Oh! And that their costumes look, well... like costumes. They need some dirt on them or something to make them look like they have wear on them. I saw some scenes where they should have been rather travel-weary and they were just miraculously spotless and it bothered me.

Yeah the white tower looks dingy, it doesn't look like a race of super builders built it to impress people with its fantastic design and shining walls :/ looks like discount Kings Landing

I thought that the graphics with the arrows was kinda cheesy. I agree that the White Tower could look better, but I do understand why it looks like it does. (i.e. Ogier-built).

I'm admittedly a little concerned about what appears to be the new plot stuff around Logain. Like, not sure if they noticed, but there are fifteen books worth of plot. Dear showrunners: y'all really don't have to make up new stuff! There's enough, I promise!

On a selfish, personal note, the lack of shawls made me grumpy because I was hoping to steal the design (especially for the flame size) for when I make myself one. Also, while I like the new colours used on the Amyrlin's Stole (with the pastel shades it looks almost holographic, which is always a winner with me) I'm not sure if they were in the original colour order and that bothers me more than it probably should.

I'm a bit concerned too about some things being rushed and squished to fit a television format when it also seems like new elements are being introduced (like the new Logain stuff @Arinna Katal mentioned). I just hope that it all flows well and makes sense.

I agree with all of this! I am a sucker for pastels, but I was hoping that there would actually be the stole, or something closer than a fancy collar.

Agreed on the shawls.

Also - the rings are hideous.

They made my man look....not attractive??

At least it isn't Androl??? :rofl (no offense Brandon!)

Agreed on both of these. I understand (or at least can guess at) the rationale in both cases, but . . . geez, those rings.

I could also have gone for a more graceful-looking White Tower -- though I'll admit that I've spent some time trying to imagine the internal layout of the place and how you make it work without forcing everybody to climb up and down the stairs all day, and the conclusion I arrived at was "this is one of the reasons we've historically built more outward than upward." :-p

But I'm sure my real salt will come once we have episodes and I can indulge in that traditional fannish pastime known as They Did It Wrong! :-D

Agreed! For the rings, the only part I like is now I can understand why they can't just turn them around to hide them when they want to. I also like that they are in your face like "HEY I'M AN AES SEDAI" but I don't really like large, bulky rings. I'm happy with my traditional ouroboros!

A more graceful-looking White Towe would definitely have been better. I accept what they went for, and comparing it to the other buildings it's certainly much bigger. I don't doubt that it will be imposing and all that, but "graceful" is definitely the right word for what is missing.

It is exciting that they are going for a new interpretation of things, instead of replicating directly what it says in the books or via fan-art. I am looking forward to NEW Wheel of Time (even if it's Wrong). Oddly, I'm interested to find out what my biggest peeve will be.

Hah, same! I'm strangely excited by the prospect of seeing what I disagree with. But that's probably just because I'm excited to see the show, period . . . (Why is it not November yet?)

Definitely agree here... some things just tend to grow on me over the course of a season of a show. E.g. Red in Blacklist

My disappointment is largely around things they simply didn't have time for in a teaser trailer but that I know are in the show (Thom and Loial, notably) so I'm just trying to be patient on that front.

I was hoping Tar Valon more generally would be incredibly fantastical and whimsical, even from an aerial shot. It's possible the Ogier stonemasonry will have some interesting street-level artistry, but I wanted to spot a building that looks like it's a school of fish and I didn't so [pout].

For me its the lack of Inn's! Like...only 1 Inn in the trailer, where the boys are crowded around laughing? They go to like thirty inns in book 1 alone!

I like the rings. :look:

But, I also regularly wear several bulky rings, so that's not surprising.

I'm trying really hard to think of anything I didn't like, and I'm struggling! I think the only thing I'm nervous about right now is the actor who plays Rand. I don't have any reason to doubt his ability, but I also don't feel like I've seen anything to make me trust he has the range to pull it off. I'm looking forward to being happily surprised, though.

Oh, agreed. I'm probably nervous about all of the actors just because I've been envisioning these fake people in my head for many many years, and the chances that all portrayal choices match up with how I would have imagined that character would deliver a particular line are exactly zero. Rand is such a big ask, too, because he becomes very different as the series goes on. Fingers crossed!!

Right! I feel like it would be reallllly easy to make Rand an unlikable or even cheesy character. You've gotta be a really good, nuanced actor to be able to play him well.

To be fair, Rand is actually pretty unlikable through most of the series (in my opinion, anyway)…like, I understand that he’s kind of going through A Lot, I have deep sympathy for him and am always pulling for him, but he’s really a giant bummer for pretty much eight solid books. :D
