I had imagined the heron was located on the hilt, because of the palm branded herons later on.

This is beautiful though, can't wait to see more.

If he grabs the blade maybe? it doesn't look sharpened where the heron is, maybe it's part of a form to hold it?

Honestly, they might go with a different way to "mark" him altogether. They might choose to prioritize filming time by removing hand makeup/prosthetics that will often be hidden and could be easily messed up and smudged.

There are Herons on the Hilt and the blade. When Rand meets Morgaise in Book 1 Garath grabs the hilt and feels the heron on the hilt to discover it under the cawcade.

Hopefully this is a V1 because not having a Heron on the Hilt will cause some plot issues, the biggest of which are the aformentioned "Twice and Twice shall he be marked"

This would be my guess. Makes more sense in a visual medium to apply marks that will be seen more easily and frequently by the viewers, and less of a pain as a practical effect. If they didn't have the hand brands applied constantly someone would probably throw a fit over a quick shot of an unbranded palm.

Streamlining the prophecy also feels likely, there's plenty of ways they could tailor it and keep it elaborate and misleading without having things that are a lot of effort for minimal gain.

To me the more relevant use of the herons is for the blademaster distinction, since that's something so prevalent in that world and frequently used to subvert characters' expectations.

My sister-in-law has been watching a lot of C-dramas, and she was watching the Legend of Fei when I noticed this fascinating grip position. It occurs a few times over the course of the episode, but that was the clearest screencap she could grab for me. Even if it's not on the hilt and it's only on the blade itself, he can still be "twice and twice" marked without a lot of trouble, even with the type of sword it is.

Although I'm fine with it being something more like the dragon tattoos he gets later.
