I'm not concerned if they don't. The showrunner is a massive fan, they have someone who's read all of them 30 times on as a consultant, I know Rosamund Pike has read at least some, if not all... Brandon Sanderson and Harriet are on board as co-producers.

I was never going to agree 100% with how actors decided to portray their characters anyway (or, for that matter, how any other fan wants them to be played), so with all of these executive people making the actual decisions about what the show is going to be like I'm not going to bother myself if they don't read 4.4 million words.

That is very well said. I agree with that. I was only curious really.

I really do hope they read and like the books, but that must be daunting for the actors lol, so I think there will be some hilarious interview moments with the cast when the show gets going, "did you read the series?" .. "umm..."

I would really love to see how they are developing the character story arcs. My favourite castings so far are for Moiraine and Matt. I love Rosamund Pike and the actor for Matt kind of looks like how I pictured him!

I can't believe I have to wait now until 2021 ...

Actors use different metods. Some will probably read the books, and some will not prefering to form their own version of the character.

Yes but... Remember what happened to Dumbledore? :( I know it can't be but, I wish it was mandatory for actors to read their characters arch. :tug

This might be unpopular here, but I'm not a fan of HP. What happened with Dumbledore, Eliza Sedai?

I agree though, it seems silly to me not to read the book you're portraying. You should be aware of your characters underlying motfis etc. WoT is an excellent example of that given how many characters we don't really get to look inside the head of until later in the books. There are usually hints, but not always.

For instance Moiraine's motives and backstory isn't clear to the Emond Fielder's at all, but it does explain a lot why she acts the way she does.

I don't know if this will show up - stupid work computer but to explain

Dumbledore was a calm, wise older man who understood what was going on better than anyone lese in any room with him, at any given time. Michael Gambon who played the headmaster from film 3 on wards, had never read the books, nor did he while playing the role. This lead to him portraying Dumbledore's reactions to things. The question "Did you put your name in the goblet of fire" is a classic since Rowling describes the question as being asked calmly and Gambon had him dash at Harry, shouting and grabbing his shoulders to shake the answer out of him.

Now I know that this is also down to the director as actors rely on them to guide them into a portrayal that they want. And I don't expect people to go to the extremes that the likes of Viigo Mortensen or Heath Ledger go to. But how could you not pick up the source material?

I see, that is a big difference. It makes for a completely different character. The directors have to direct, yes, but sometimes the actors refuse to listen... And get away with it if they're a big enough name. Reading the source material and then create your own take on the character would be best.

I really get why they are being so secretive. It's annoying, but I know I would discuss the choices for a week and then forget about it until they start showing trailers etc if they gave it all away now. It's just too long until it premieres. So glad we have Amazon Prime in Norway now!

So annoying that we often have to wait for a year or more to watch a show/season, Aduiavas Sedai. And often we pay more for streaming services as well :grumble

Mee to, Atarah Sedai. My biggest fear is that important stuff gets leaked. I prefer waiting for it to be revealed as planned. I hate leaks and spoilers...

Was looking around at actresses for a role playing character idea and stumbled across Michelle Forbes. Man, she could act the sh** out of Elaida if they were so inclined to cast her.

Funny thing is

I prefer Gambons take on it. His take on the whole character actually appeals to me more.

*shrugs*

Everyone's interpretation by the actors even if they go over the books with a fine tooth comb and viewers comfort with how they portray them is going to vastly differ.

I'm just hoping they are able to produce strong acting and interesting characters even if they aren't completely true nit pick by nit pick to the source material.

Fair enough, we all have our ow ideas and perceptions of fictional characters, and we'll always find things to love and hate. Like you said, as long as they act well I'll be happy :pleased-1:

when it comes to HP I was waaay more pissed that they cut out the house elves plot, which resolves in a wonderful way.
