What EotW/TGH scene(s) are you excited about?

Just in case it's not obvious, spoilers abound in this thread!

I think it's possible, given Marvelous Mrs. Maisel had 18 episodes its first season, we might see a longer season that could cover both Eye of the World and The Great Hunt. I've always encouraged new readers to read the first two books and then decide if they want to keep going, and I kinda consider them a matched pair.

So here's what got me excited about finally seeing it on screen:

1) Moiraine's Manatheren monologue. I've always had a thing for movie oration (starting with the Independence Day speech), and reading this monologue in the book has always given me chills. I think Rosamund might just knock this out of the park, and I can't wait to hear her voice saying "Weep for Manetheren. Weep for what is lost forever."

2) Loial and the Ways. I've always loved the nerdy bookish scholar archeologist in pretty much any incarnation, and Loial navigating them through the Ways has always been one of my favorite arcs in EotW and I think it has the potential to be a really beautiful and interesting set design that shows off what the WoT world can be like. Seeing the Waygate come to life could quite possibly be epic.

3) "Cat crosses the courtyard!" I'm going to laugh. So hard.

4) Nynaeve's Accepted test. I'm so interested to see how the show's going to handle ter'angreal like that, and this scene could be incredibly emotionally compelling. I'm guessing that up until this point in the show her character's going to have a lot of detractors, so this scene could be really powerful as our first real insight into her character motivations-- motivations that stay with her all the way until AMoL.

I really want to see the Manetheren monologue too :pleased-1:

And I want to see the "Rand accidentally fall into the Royal Garden" scene. I hope they keep that, because it is hilarious

Spoilers are fine unless otherwise indicated. We won't worry about spoilers until the show actually starts in case we get an influx of people who are watching and haven't read the books. It's fair to assume here that the majority of us have read at least the first two books, and any Senior Member has read the whole series, as that's a requirement for being a senior member.

Yes! I want to see this scene. I want to see random people giving him grief over the color he chose, too.

I don't want to sidetrack us too far, but any SM who was raised before ~2013 technically would only have had to read up to the published point when they were raised. I know of at least one person this applies to, although I'm guessing it's not too widespread.

On topic, I want to see the Green Man and the mini-grove that appears with him.

Good point. I forgot about that.

I want to see the scene with Thom against the Myrdraal at White Bridge, and the soon after scene of Rand and Mat at the Inn that have trapped them in to rob them since that's the first point in which we get to see Rand unintentionally channel.

I think this is what I am most looking forward to.

oooh, yeah. Flicker will be really good to see adapted. I can't really think of a way it will be handled so I can't wait to see what they come up with.

in that same vein, When Rand meets Siuan in the Borderlands for the first time and Lan giving him the talk before he goes and sees her.

Unless the show demonstrates on screen what a man who can channel historically does ... Red are definitely going to come across as *extremely* unsympathetic at the very least.

I'm actually curious about how they interpret the other world/dimention Rand and Hurin stumble into. Not really that exciting, I just want to see how they see it vs how I imagined it.

The flicker should be fun. They could mess it up I suppose, but I hope it'll be obvious what's going on.

I'm also looking forward to Nynaeve's test. I really hope they won't cut of those as it's so seldom we see her perspective.

I'm looking forward to Shadar Logoth. Hope they won't cut any of the stories about Aridhol or Manetheren. Not completely at least. To me it gives the world more depth and it's so epic. Gives me chills as well when we hear about Manetheren's fight against the Shadow.

I want to see visualizations of the epic cities. What do Camelyn and Tar Valon look like? Ogier architecture and groves, the topless towers of Cairhien, the "glass" bridges of Tar Valon.

I am an absolute architecture and set design nut so if they go with "vaguely renaissance cities" and not really lean into the fantastical whimsical weirdness I'm going to LOSE IT.

Rafe is obviously a deep core fan so I think he gets how important it is to visualize Ogier masonry especially but who knows what Amazon studio heads might do.

ETA: something that just hit me. Something they could do with the ter'angreal is make it obvious that they're "high tech." I remember thinking of them in a very First/Second Age of LotR right up until the library data storage device Aviendha figures out in Caemlyn, the one that displays "lies" and "truth" but is obviously supposed to be "fiction" and "nonfiction"? I was suddenly hit with how RJ was describing a holographic data storage and display device. It could look like a Steve Jobs wet dream.

So what if the rings are like that weird stoney metal we see on scifi sets? And when Nyneave first enters it has like a loading sequence where the terrain sorta blooms out around her (I'm visualizing what we see in assassin's creed when an area is "loading" in the animus, for anyone who's seen that).

Of course it couldn't be super hard scifi looking or it would tonally be off putting and wouldn't even be book canon, but I think I'd like to see this approach worked out. Thoughtfully put on screen what technologically advanced magic would look like. Like ... MCU Thor. Or even Stargate Altaran/Ori. It could make WoT look very special.

Wow this thread is giving me so many flashbacks, this is fantastic!

Yes, this was such an important part of book 1, and a huge part of the mystery... for some reason after book 1 I don't recall the green man ever being recalled at all or referenced at all, it was like this weird focal point of book 1, but then vanished forever. I found it really odd at first, but it is one of the main reasons I loved book 1.

It's possible my memory is failing me, I mean it was 15 years ago I read it...

Yes, this so much! When I first saw the rainbow tech bridge in MCU Thor movies on their home world of Ragnarok (or w.e it is called) I was like no way!!! This is exactly how I imagined the Age of Legends bridges would have looked like when the current Aes Sedai were discussing ages past and the 'great wonders' Aes Sedai were capable of. When I saw that rainbow bridge that was my single first thought, it knocked me off my socks and made me think that...

ugh I hope they get this series right, I'm so afraid it will ruin my childhood fantasies. I really need to read the series one last time, and fast... just to be safe.

Someshta, the Green Man, shows up in at least two of the vision's Rand sees in Rhuidean:)
