So ...

I changed my last name from Karasu to Karisu did anyone notice

Karasu means "crow" in Japanese and crows being aligned with the Dark One in WoT made me never 100% like it. But I love the sound of it. So I literally made a huge list thingy with each Japanese "k" beginning (ka, ki, ku, ke, ko), each "r" middle, and each "s" ending. I tried them all out ... and came up with ...

KARISU or Charis. Which means: goddess of charm, beauty, nature, creativity *ahem* yes it fits a lot better than crow. I'm sure @Charis Delphi Sedai would agree.

Btw it was a lot better than Korosu which means "kill".

I love the name "Tristan" so I changed it a bit. I found my last name in a Wheel of Time fantasy name generator.

When did you make the change Juliya? I didn’t even notice until you pointed it out!

I was trying to find a name that sounded like it would fit in the world of WoT. Dar'Jen is a combination of my own real first and middle names. Ab Owain is an old Welsh variation of my last name. So putting it all together it sounds fitting. And Dar'Jen Ab Owain just seems to fit me.

My last name came from Welsh too. Braith means freckled. I added the e for aesthetics. My surname is... probably Welsh or Manx, it’s a rare Celtic name with obscure origins but most people who have it live in wales now. My son’s name is Rhys in honor of that heritage.

Ka - Ri (like ree) - Su (the su is a bit less "u"-ey .. so to Japanese people it's their pronunciation of "Charis"). Kind of like Karees with a tiny "uh" on the end. I suck at typing out how to pronounce things.

That was quite good. I'd been pronouncing it wrong it seems.

I'd put it on the second syllable, but considering it's from Japanese, it might well be on the first one. :scratch And now we wait.

I'm sweating now, never thought my name would be under such scrutiny.

I feel like they're all pretty equal but slightly more on the "Ka".

Juliya, I could have sworn your last name was Karasu, but then I thought I must have been seeing it wrong and now I know I wasn't

I picked my first name at random off a baby name site. I liked how it looked and sounded. My last name I just randomly made up and stuck an "al" in front of it.

I just really love gnomes, and I've been told as a joke that I look like one, lol. So that's where the first name came from. The second is pretty much also "gnome" — I just added "Maq" in front as a fusion of modern "Mac" and the primitive "Maqqi" to make it look a bit WoT-y. Both are Irish for "Son of." I also added an N on to the last name, either to mimic a sort of imaginary declension or just to invent a quirky family name that ends up sounding a little like "gnome-men." I had thought about using "Noam" or "Nom" instead, just to be a bit closer to a WoT-y spelling, as I don't remember seeing "gn" used in names in the books. But then I figured no one would ever see "gnome" in that without my explaining, so that's that. The below is just a picture of me and a gnome statue of mine — I like to tell people it was done on commission:
