Every time I re-read the series, my perspective changes. Rand, of course, is a well built, great character. Honorable, humble, and imperfect, he's amazing.
Tam has grown on me recently; I love the simplicity of his outlook, and how humble he is. A blademaster and father of the Dragon could be a king.
Moiraine and Siuan have always been near the top of my list. Driven as any Blue should be, they are the very pinnacle of what an Aes Sedai should be.
Verin is the picture of a true Brown. She's driven to collect knowledge, but doesn't ignore the world around her. She bows when she has to, but retains her dignity; she is almost like a Blue in many ways. Throughout the book, she is respected even by Aes Sedai stronger in the Power.
Vanin is one of my favorite side characters; he is loyal, capable, and respectable. Developing a fatherly outlook towards Elayne was just perfect for him.
Saerin is maybe my second favorite character. She's Brown Ajah, intimidating, and perhaps the second most powerful woman in the tower (after Egwene). She's dedicated to Brown Ajah ideals, but doesn't ignore the world around her. She supports Egwene, and give off all the right vibes.
My favorite is, I must say, Cadsuane. She is the ideal Aes Sedai, dedicated to her Ajah, but displays traits of all. Born in Far Madding, she grew up in an anti-Power society, yet became the most powerful Aes Sedai (how did Verin get banished, after all?!?). She was taught at a time where Aes Sedai dignity and power were declining (look where those are today *cough* Shemerin *cough*). Abducted, taught, and strengthened by a wilder, she learned how to be a true Aes Sedai, and was gifted her powerful net. Now, she works singe-handedly to save the Tower, as well as meddling in everything she can. Her strength of will, wisdom, and no-nonesense attitude place her at the top of my list. If only we could see how she deals with the Seanchan! (Expect some embarrassed Sul'dam).

Hurin is one of my favorite characters that aren't a part of the main ensemble cast.
I think Hurin's ability is such a neat thing to spin out of the web. I always loved the idea of the sniffer, especially when they were in the portal world where he could smell where they could be.

Mat has been my consistent favorite since I started the series when I was 12. He is such an interesting character, in my opinion, more so than the other two guys. I'm not a huge fan of most of the women in the series, but I absolutely love Aviendha, most of the Wise Ones, and Birgitte is a major reason I wanted to be a Gaidin. I grew to appreciate, and then like Nynaeve, as I grew up, but at first I couldn't stand her. And Lan has always just been amazing to me. He has always reminded me of my dad. Elyas is also an awesome character and I always wished he had more screentime, so to speak.

And on another note, I can't believe I haven't ever seen this thread.

I would have to say that Mat is also my favorite character, with Perrin a close second. Mat has always intrigued me, and I find myself seriously looking forward to all of his sections of the books.

I'm rereading right now and every time I come across Verin I also agree how awesome she is.

My favourite character is Nynaeve for the girls and probably Mat, Perrin, or Rand for the guys. I also like Gareth Bryne and Lan a lot.

I am surprised by how many here like Mat, he was my least favorite. I suppose I just don't like the idea of luck as a skill, not so much Mat himself, when someone like Lan works day and night and Mat just gets everything so easily without trying. Kind of annoys me.

Perrin is still my favorite and always will be, at age 12-13 when I first read the series, to even now at 31, Perrin speaks to my entire being for some reason. Probably the canine connection, the idea of the wolfbrother and a sense of greater connectedness to the Cosmos through nature. Now that I think of it... that is the whole reason I fell in love with stoicism, which is why I decided to major in philosophy to begin with. I never made that connection until now, haha wow

Who is your favourite character in book 1 to 4?
Mine is Moiraine.
I have to go with Rand if I have to pick one. His transformation through the books and the guilt he carries over the maidens and others that have died protecting him makes in a very interesting character.

Lan is my favorite character. A lot of it has to do with his loyalty and dedication. There are times he frustrates me, but mostly I find him an admirable character with traits worthy of emulation.

This thread is almost a year old...but I'm new to the series, and I'm going to leave my two cents about some characters :D

I'm currently at the beginning of The Dragon Reborn.
Of the three main boys, my favourite is Perrin.
I've basically disliked Mat the whole time, which is funny since he's a favourite of @Relinya Ryviarra ...maybe he'll get better in future books, but as of right now, he's too whiney for me to enjoy him.
Rand is also...just...blah IMO.

Of the main women, I love Nynaeve the best so far, but Egwene is a pretty close second. And I enjoy Min...and hope we get to see her more.

I also enjoy Loial a lot...but I think part of it is how he's voiced in the audiobooks.

Anyway...these are my current thoughts only, and I reserve the right to change my mind as I read more...lol

Perrin and Loial are great characters. And it's good to keep an open mind as the characters do change through out the series. I've never listened to the audio books, but have
