Thank you so much to Luna, Fern, Eliza, Eluial, and Ilverin for their service! It has been a pleasure serving alongside you and I thank you for all of your hard work in running the Welcoming Committee.

I will now be taking applications for the Welcoming Committee for a new term. Please read through the information below and feel free to ask me any questions via PM/email.

About the Welcome Committee Forum:

There are a number of threads in the Welcoming Committee (WC) forum, each detailing a project. Anyone on the WC Committee will be invited to work on any of these projects at any time. If you have a passion for our new members or want to help them be more active--this team is for you! (If you don't have a passion for that, you should at least have a passion for storytelling, getting to know other site members through PMs or via IRC, enjoy making sigs or avatars, or possess a love of spreadsheets.)

About the Welcome Committee Specializations:

All these positions are considered "Welcoming Committee" members and are considered a guide towards overall team function, but you can fit in one category or all categories -- that is up to you.
The Welcoming Committee will consist of 5 members, including optional subsets as follows: 2 Greeters, 1 Scribe, and 2 City Architects. The Greeters will be traditional WC members and greet as they have always been. They will patrol the Introductions Forum and work with visitors, helping them get avatars, get enough posts, and become citizens. Their main thread here is the Greeting Journal, where they will keep everyone (including me) up to date on who they've greeted.

The Scribe will maintain a Google Drive spreadsheet of the active visitors and track their credentials toward becoming a citizen as they move through the process. This will involve verifying avatars, recording dates, and getting information from the Greeters and making sure it is organized. They will also help the Mayor organize documents or record information in other areas as they develop. This is great for a person who loves spreadsheets but perhaps is a little shy and doesn't really want to send multiple PMs a day.

Finally, the City Architects! In short, this duo will work everywhere. If this is you, I expect you to at least glance in every thread and help out wherever you see progress can occur or help is needed. Above all, you must be tactful--both to the other administrators here, to new members, and to me. I want you to be creative and challenge things you see in order to determine if you can do it better, get it done now, help do it faster, or fix broken things. However, as you are working in threads where you are not the primary leader, the phrasing of your suggestions is extremely important. Be sensitive, intelligent, and badass!

Requirements:
  • Be a full member of the site (i.e. must have attained the rank of Citizen or higher).
  • Have an email address you are willing to share with at least the mayor. Some of the projects may require you to have an email you are willing to share with everyone in the forum. If you uncomfortable using your primary email, creating a faux-email whose only use is for this forum is okay.
  • Be trainable - You don't have to know anything coming into this position; I can teach you everything you need to know. For some things, however, I will be using Google Drive, a set of Microsoft Office-esque free online programs, and your position and future projects may require you to use it.
  • Be enthusiastic, creative, and forward-thinking! - the Welcome Committee is a great place to be if you want to effect change on the site. I'm most excited for members of the committee who have ideas for how we can better involve new members -- no matter how big or small the idea is.

Position Timeline
Positions will run from 1st November 2018 - 1st May 2019.

To Apply:

Please send me an email to mayor@tarvalon.net, keeper@tarvalon.net, and membership@tarvalon.net saying you would like to apply to the Welcoming Committee. If you have a preference, please state whether you gravitate toward being a Greeter, the Scribe, the Architect, or multiple specializations. If you have no preference, please mention this so that I know you didn't just forget to tell me which one you'd like.

Feel free to tell me why you would be a good person for this position. You may describe initiatives you've done in the past, detail your skills, or elaborate on your vision.

Applications due by: 26th October 2018

If you're interested in working with new members, but don't feel you have the time to commit to this position, please consider joining our Friendly Faces or Language Buddies program (more details here - just scroll down!). :)

It's annoying when work gets in the way of enjoying the tower....
I'm just waiting for the day my boss asks me what Tar Valon.net is
