New to the site and forums and still straightening myself out, hence the non-WoT name and avatar. I met a couple local folks who are on the site and thought I'd check it out.

I've read about half the books so far. Actually, I stopped reading at whatever book where they are looking for the cloud bowl. I decided to start a re-read of the series. Right now, I've read the prequel and am almost through book #1.

I've always been a fan of Arthurian legend (and especially the Mists of Avalon, which I read about 20 years ago), and the bits of lore that Jordan pulled from that are what got me interested in the beginning. I also enjoy the "easter eggs" he throws in that clue the reader in that the Age of the books is a future Earth somehow or another.

And, well, aes sedai are just cool. I'm Wiccan, so anything that has elements of women training in a mystery magical school appeals to me. Aside from the whole taint on the male half of the energies, I kind of wish magic really worked like the system in the book. The threads concept is really interesting.

I'm slowly filling out my profile, but I'm from Baltimore, MD. I know there's at least two more folks here from Maryland. I'm really looking forward to meeting more fans. Most of my local scifi/fantasy friends are not into these books.

Welcome! Let me know if you have any questions at all! I'm not sure who the local people are that you met in Maryland, unless it was @Jenalla Selar or @Shaerlyn Storna.

I'm not sure what their names are on here. I'll ask them next time I see them. I'm still in the "poking around the site and learning the rules" stage. I need to get myself a more WoT-ier avatar tonight. Also, I need to find out how one becomes Aes Sedai here. :)

Welcome! Yes, there are a few Marylanders, and others who live in and around the Greater DC area.

Another good Arthurian series is The Pendragon Cycle by Stephen R. Lawhead. Definitely some WTF moments in there, but very good.

They are very good. I first read the initial books in the early 90's and was very impressed. The first volume is Taliesin, and it is from an early Celtic perspective. :love
