This is one of my least favorite parts of my job- when the horrible RL monster eats one of my Directors. :( Ninya has done a fantastic job building a Marketing vision and team for our community over her year and a bit here, but unfortunately, she's leaving our band of merry Execs. :\ Thank you for all you have contributed and the ideas we'll continue to grow and build on. :hug

With that, we will need a new Director of Marketing- here's the deets!

The Director of Marketing is an Executive position and as such will have all responsibilities inherent in that position, such as working with other Directors and Officers, providing counsel to other Executives when asked, and managing the Department of Marketing. This position works closely with all Directors; much of this Department's work is given to it by other Executives and administrators, and the work needs to be completed in a timely fashion for everyone to be able to do their work. The Director of Marketing reports directly to the Keeper of the Chronicles.
  • Provide counsel to the other Executives as needed.
  • Handle any human resource issues for the Department, including staff/administrator reviews, selecting and replacing any staff/administrators, complaints, etc.
  • Keep Officers updated on all projects and issues in the Department via email.
  • Collaborate with Directors and Officers to develop and maintain visual aspects of the site and community via the graphic design team. Examples of this include Ajah and Company logos, merit badge icons and graphics, events programs, events logos, program advertisements, overall site design, Chain of Command graphics, etc.
  • Develop and enhance the marketing aspect of our community; in addition to the graphics team, the Director of Marketing directly supervises the following sub-departments:
    • Tar Valon Times: editor, assistant and content team
    • Social Marketing Manager & Tower Voice team
Requirements- As always, if you feel you are close to the requirements listed but not 100% there, please apply anyway.
  • Must currently be: a Senior Member with at least one year good standing as a Senior Member, have held Senior Membership in good standing for at least one year prior to applying, or at least one year relevant RL experience in a similar role along with at least one year in good standing on the site.
  • Must be able to dedicate at least one year to this position. We understand that things come up and sometimes it's not possible, but if you don't think you will be able to fulfill the duties of this position for at least a year, please seriously consider whether or not you should apply.
  • Must be willing and able to work 10-20 hours a week on this position. Marketing is an extremely busy Department with often critical deadlines for projects.
  • Strong grasp of visuals in graphics or visuals, with the ability to maintain consistency in the TarValon.Net Branding.
  • Must be able to manage both people and projects; must be willing to step in and finish projects yourself as necessary.
  • Must have creativity and a willingness to try to new things.
  • Must be diplomatic and discreet.
Experience with the following is a plus but not required:
  • Prior experience in the Department of Marketing
  • Familiarity with Dropbox, HTML/CSS, etc
  • Working experience with multiple communication methods- forums, IRC, WhatsApp, Slack or other applications used to coordinate communications within a team
  • Online marketing strategies and/or search engine optimization
  • Online newsletter or journalism
  • Using CafePress, Twitter, Facebook, etc

Thanks guys. It's been a fun ride, but I'm excited to see what new directions we'll go in next!

For the record- the "Project Manager and team" line is no longer accurate. The Project Manager role was dissolved and the DoM supervises the GDT on their own. It would also be really good for the DoM to specifically be familiar with and willing to use Slack.
