The two worst scenes are when Min and Egwene are captured and when Thom's lover, Dena, is murdered.
Why do you think they are the worst? :) I think the first one at least is among the best moments, even though what happens is of course horrible. But I like the mixture of confusion there, things happening too fast that they are not even written cohesively. In addition, I really like it how full of emotions that moment is - especially everything related to damane, since all that is so mysterious and weird at that point, and we get to see (although it's awful) how easily someone is taken and what happens next.

I personally hated the scene with flies in the house, where same scene was repeating itself and Rand was trapped in it. It served no purpose in the plot, and was boring and confusing (and not in a good way). What was all that about, anyway?

Yes, the flies scene was confusing to me that scene showed what happened before the poor families life was turned upside down, though I agree it did serve no purpose.

The reason I hated it when they were captured, is because you know what was coming, once all hell broke loose. Though the way he gets your emotions going, is great.

My favorite scene is when Mat blows the horn. I feel like the story up until now was much more focused on Rand as a hero (or potential villain) than Mat or Perrin. They were obviously going to have some role of their own, but I wasn't expecting MAT to end up with the horn. And the heroes showing up, feels a bit like finally they might have a real chance against the darkness. :pleased-1:

The scenes I liked least were those with the Whitecloaks. I feel like their entire purpose in this book was to give us a little insight into what the Seanchan were doing, but mostly it goes over my head because they annoy me so much I just want to skip over their parts. :look:

Megana, I agree with you about Mat blowing the Horn. And Perrin as bannerman! That's the point when it's confirmed that all three are important.

One thing I loved about the horn blowing, is when Min notices the heros and she just kinda shakes her head... she didn't know that they had the horn. Love it!

Super worst painful scene for me is when Ingtar is revealed as a dark friend :(

One of the Best? When he screams at the Shadow and charges in to redeem himself!!!

I really don't like the whole part where Rand, Hurin, and Loial are in the mirror world. Was that really the best way to introduce Lanfere? I really dislike the whole part.

I actually liked those scenes and thought it an interesting concept, but I have always been fascinated with the idea of parallel worlds.

They touched on the parallel worlds every now and then but never really go back to them. In a sense, those stones that were used were like the Ways only you needed control of the power and to know the right symbols.

One of my favorite scenes was Rand fighting the other sword master near the end.

One of the worst scenes and partly because it was just hard to read is when Egwene is captured and being taught her lessons.

It was a great introduction to this human threat that is in this world besides the Dark One, but it was hard to read Egwene almost breaking and losing hope.
That said looking back at point A where they started and each journey they went on shows you how much they have grown.
Also listening to the fly part in audiobook was funny I thought my phone was broken when it started playing it.
It was a scene to show the trouble spreading in the world but yeah could have been done better.

In the middle of a re-read and just finished Book 2. I find all the parts talking about the sul'dam "training" Egwene to be very difficult to read. Which I know they should be, and I knew it was coming since this is my second time through the book, but it was still really hard to read. I actually liked the scene with the flies. It had a very horror movie quality to it. I think my favorite part was the bit about the parallel lives Rand lived while he was trying to transport everyone to Toman Head. I wish we'd gotten to see more of what the others saw. I know Perrin talks a little about it early in Book 3 (which is where I currently am in the re-read), and I can't remember if more details come out in later books.

I've just finished my re-read of the great hunt. First time post the last book but probably my third time on this book. Still my favorite overall, for me the end where everything comes to a head at Falme, the fact that Rand is going back for Egwene but really is being pulled back by the need to fufill prophecy, the white cloaks, the girl's escape from the Seanchan, Ingtar coming back to the light and Mat blowing the Horn. . . a captivating sequence.

I wish the "other worlds" had been used more, but with the complexities in the main world as well as developing the world of dreams, I can see why there wasn't time to delve into this concept as fully as we desire.

I think you're right Verbinia, there is no other reference to the other lives they saw. I don't think Matt even remembers them. I hate when we find out the Aes Sedai who spoke to Egwene, the one who asked for her real name to be remembered was responsible for capturing another sister.
