Thousands of people around the world are voiceless due to medical issues or disability. The classic example is Stephen Hawking: Due to his disease, he could not speak and needed to use a machine to express himself.
In the past, the voices available to the voiceless have sounded obviously computer-generated; nothing like a human voice.
VocaliD is a company that crowdsources voices for use in creating voices for the voiceless. They can combine different voices to create the voice that the voiceless person likes, which that person then uses to communicate.
We are holding a Voice Drive: Rather than a fund drive that gathers funds, a Voice Drive gathers voices.
You donate your voice by reading passages from stories and TED Talks into VocaliD's website using an over-the-ear headset.
To fully bank your voice, you have to read 3,500 sentences into VocaliD's software. Less than 10% of volunteers finish the banking process. The Voice Drive administrator can see how many sentences each person has banked and how many sentences have been banked altogether.
We do these things to be Aes Sedai - Servants of All.
However, for motivation:
The first person to fully bank their voice will receive a copy of A Memory of Light signed by Team Jordan! Note that you must completely bank your voice to win this prize. If no one finishes, this prize will not be given out.
The second person to finish banking their voice, or the person who banks the second-most amount of sentences (whichever comes first) will receive a Duty is Heavier than a Mountain signed print!
The third person to finish banking their voice, or the person who banks the third-most amount of sentences (whichever comes first) will receive vinyl stickers from Ta'veren Tees!
Further, the community group that banks the most sentences (Citizens, Novices/Recruits, Accepted/Soldiers, Ajahs/Companies) will get a sig reflecting their service!
