Welcome to Tar Valon, I hope you will find many friends here. There are some great people here that I have had the pleasure to talk to and many I have met in person at the Anni party.

Welcome to the forums of TarValon.Net! :D

Since you ask, I am centrally isolated in Missouri. I am functional in Spanish, can barter in French. I attempted Irish and Chinese. RJ seems to have some background in languages, judging from his naming conventions.

Yay, go Missouri! I'm down in the SW corner-ish-area. It looks like we share an affinity for languages, and my best is also Spanish, and can still kinda read French even if I can't speak or write it really... But then I did a bunch of Latin and some Ancient Greek, along with one semester of Chinese. I didn't like that one as much because the written and verbal languages don't really match.

I am just south of St. Louis. Languages are my weak suit, but I found I can do them and it is helpful for travel! Chinese is hard because it's like learning two languages at once. The Pinyin spellings help, but the logograms seem unrelated.

Welcome, Mathias! I'm a former music teacher (voice/piano emphasis but of course did the tour through the rest :P ) from Colorado - very glad you found us and that your wife is also enjoying the series! I used to have a coworker who was learning pipes, and had an electric sort of set up that he could play on the couch in the breakroom with headphones to practice - it completely blew my mind  Breath control FTW! :D

Voice and piano gives you an edge over us low brass players! I do have an electric set of pipes I can play with headphones. When I got my full set of Great Highland Pipes the neighbor asked my wife how she could stand it. Her husband had just bought a motorcycle, so my wife snarked back, "At least when he is playing the bagpipes I know where he is and what he is doing!"
