btw - when can we stop using spoiler tags :look:
just wondering as anyone who reads the thread should probably be aware there are spoilers and read at their own risk and because I have to reopen all the spoiler tags and reread them while I make comments  i'm getting old :P

I believe that we stated in an information thread that this thread will contain spoilers. If not, I will now officially say that we no longer need spoiler tags in this thread ;)

The book has been out for several months, and this thread is clearly labeled with the name of the book...

Not more? :scratch Well, almost two months then. And anyway, my other points stand. Most of us have read it by now, and this thread is clearly labelled if people still want to avoid spoilers...

I just finished the book :P Wow, Sanderson has outdone himself!

So I'm gonna use a spoiler tag anyway, just in case:

HOLY CRAP HUMANS ARE THE VOIDBRINGERS!!!

That was such an amazing reveal :D

Okay, so I have a theory:

  • Wyndle mentions that he thinks Lift exists partially in the Cognative realm.
  • I read a convincing theory that suggested that the visions the Stormfather creates exist in the Spiritual realm.
  • Lift is able to draw stormlight from consuming food, and we know stormlight comes from the spiritual realm. If lift also exists partially in the Spiritual realm, then it could explain why she can enter the visions created by the Stormfather and Odium.
  • So if she exists partially in the Physical, Cognative, and Spiritual realms...
  • And the Stormfather mentioned that Lift smelled of Cultivation...
  • And it was mentioned in Oathbringer that there is a perpenticularity that moves around...
  • Therefore, my theory: Cultivation attached a perpendicularity to Lift

Hmmmm cracker of a book,

Really, really good. Gonna have to read it again soon.

Two things I find myself wanting to know more about:

*Braize/Damnation - Another planet in the Roshar system, how is it a prison exactly? What's going on there?

*The knife Moash used to kill Jezrien - WTF is that thing?

Axis, I suspect that we will get to know the answer to the last question at least ;)

It could be a knife that prevents that person from being reborn again or send them straight to Damnation or anything else...

I think it's way more likely that the knife captures his soul in the gem, thus preventing him from going to damnation and fulfilling the oathpact.

That is a scary and probably accurate theory Stephen.

And I notice that I need to reread this book soon, I seem to have missed a lot of details... But my to-read list is quite long atm :look:

I'm in a similar boat, but I found a solution. I love knowing about the little details, but I never want to re-read a book because I want to get on to the next book. So what I do is go to the cosmere subreddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/Cosmere/) and find the Spoilers Megathread for the book in question. That way I can learn what details people have gleaned from the novel.

Judging by the reaction of the other
Heralds, my guess is that it's worse than that. It's something that, like Nightblood, kills across the Cognitive and Spiritual realms as well. Some sort of awakened blade, perhaps.

Read it back when it came out, and I have to say the first scene where Szeth draws Nightblood and smites evil after his test was one of the most astoundingly awesome and frightening things I've ever read. I sometimes criticize Sanderson for somewhat pedestrian prose, but his description of the roaring in Szeth's mind and the way Nightblood instantly flips from funny/weird to OMG HOMICIDAL and then the way the guy goes up in smoke was just incredibly intense. It perfectly conveys and establishes Nightblood's power and uniqueness among other weapons. Great stuff.

I feel like something happened near the end of Honor's life that corrupted everything. We know from the Epigraphs and Dalinar's conversations with the Stormfather that the KR left Urithiru prior to the Recreance due to the Spren that powered the city falling asleep. Stormfather says she (?) slumbers. And then at some point the Midnight Mother takes her place. It's super weird, and something went wrong there. I expect we'll find out eventually.

I certainly doubt that knowledge alone would lead to such a concerted and conscious abandonment of oaths and bond.

Btw, i kind of theorize that the people of Roshar come from Trenody.

I have a theory about this...

Remember when Alcatraz broke all the talents? I think that, or a similar breaking, could have effected Honor and corrupted all the things. But since that's not part of the cosmere (unless Sanderson is being super sneaky) I think maybe the investiture of breath to create the God King in Warbreaker could have weakened honor enough to let odium begin the corruption.
