I wonder if it could be an improvement for our com to use a second title for aspirants.
Than you could recognize them more easily.

This is something I am against.

From the Membership Manual: Aspiring to an Ajah/Company does not mean that you are a member or even a half-member of that group.

From that aspect, to me it shouldn’t be a “title”. Plus the fact that you can unaspire, etc, and aspirations can be short in length (there is no set time limit to be aspired before raising). Just seems like more work than necessary.

My personal opinion though. Maybe I’m just too old school :)

I am for it. The title doesn't need a color banner, it can be set or removed by the Gatekeepers without a lot of additional work, and I personally find aspiration information very useful. I actually looked that up more than full membership in a group on the old boards- no joke.

I like the idea too, I mean we have people with really silly extra titles which tells me 1) it can't be too hard to apply an extra title and 2) they aren't being used for anything else board related. It's temporary yes but some people have been aspirants for months or years and if they are that dedicated to their group, why not let them have a title that means something to the site.
(Btw I'm not against silly titles, just making a point. Silly titles aren't official, aspiration is)

Is to unaspire a very common thing here? I thought it is just a possibilty you have and maybe every two years somebody goes wrong...
As for me, Aspiration here felt exactly that: choosen the group which liked to stay and the group gifting this person with the title aspirant to show this JM is part of them and found his home...
:novice
But maybe that is not what it means on tv.net? :(

I'm for it.

Very, very rarely has someone unaspired from an Ajah/Company, so that argument is invalid. It wouldn't be a colored banner, just a title.

Many years ago when I first joined we usually just posted something or other to this effect in our sigs.

Why not continue to do so?

Or it could just be something simple where we have a striped icon with ajah and company colors, and the first stripe on the top is the main color of the group the person is aspiring to. That way it's there but not obvious.

An issue with using the signatures is that they are hidden on mobile portrait view.

How difficult would it be to use a banner in the same color and style as the Ajah/Company but keep the title Accepted/Soldier?
Would that look too similar on first glance?

Personally, though, I don't feel like it's really necessary.

I tend to think of Aspies as Senior-members-in-waiting so don't see the problem with having titles. I don't think it' necessary but definitely not against it.

Yeah, I'm not opposed unless it would be a major pain for the technical team.

It would require writing code for more banner template types as it's not a simple drop down to add more than we have now. We then would have to create new user groups and permissions on all forums for those groups. At this point it's a No from a technology perspective.

Once all the other major projects related to this software move are closed out then the execs can review it as a group and if operationally it's wanted we can create a project for the technology and design work respectively.

Would simply adding a second title (like your "Spinner of Webs" and "voidbringer") be easier, or still tricky?

I think this is an issue for an admin meeting, actually. Should aspirants be concidered Accepted/Soldiers, or should they instead have some sort of other in between status?

I personally see no reason to change our current rules and guidelines, but it seems others do.

I'd like to hear from some other current aspirants on the matter.

Honestly it doesn't matter to me. If I am not mistaken some of the Ajah's have their Aspi's wear a banner announcing as such. :cheeseeni:

I do not think adding "aspirant to <group>" under a person's avatar does anything special for that person beyond provide a handy point of reference for other people on the site, and I'm baffled why this is such a big deal that it would need to be discussed at an admin meeting.

I'm not asking for a special banner (I get the technical issues with that). All I want is literally just what I quoted above, in plain text, preferably below where it says Accepted / Soldier. As someone else pointed out, we have silly special titles, so why is it a problem to have ones that actually reflect a useful fact?

Since Accepted and Soldiers (generally) cannot be Directors, it could use the same spot and formatting as the Director titles.
