Nice! the book where, in my opinion, Fain's arch should have been resolved.

One of my favorite scene's is Alana's reunion with Rand. I liked her in that scene, especially with "Let us help you, man!" Another is the girls' reactions after bonding Rand; especially Aviendha's.

But the best part in the whole book is Mat's return and the "Great Escape." Just love how he frees the Windfinders and the aftermath! One of the best moments for any of the 3 ta'veren in the whole series.

Sounds good! :D Gives me another week to read the other book I'm reading right now (A Scanner Darkly by Philip K. Dick), but I'm excited to get back into WoT. :)

I like both of those! The Black Ajah hunt finally getting some momentum, and the first sister ceremony is so incredible...it always makes me wish my BFF was a bigger WoT fan and would do it with me.

There is one part of the prolouge that bothers me.

Is it just me or..does "illusions and dreams of your worst nightmares coming to pass" as punishment for THEFT seem a bit..Evil Totalitarian Dictatorship ala Brazil.

Yeah, that punishment certainly seemed a bit harsh. :brown-blink: Though I assumed when I read it, that the use of the punishment would be somewhat proportional. i.e. Someone who just stole a couple small things would have a much milder dream than a murderer.

Even so, yeah... seems a bit much.

Mortification of the spirit and mortification of the flesh the norm in Tar Valon, and Randland in general. And the device is from the Age of Legends, the most advanced phase of society in WoT.

Lol, the Oath Rod was a "death penalty" in itself; shaving off a few centuries of life from channelers.

Re: Re-Readalong: Winter's Heart -- Prologue & Chapter 1

Prologue:
-Talene is convinced that Elaida is Black Ajah. Pevara is smart enough to realize that she may not be even if Talene believes it’s true.
-It’s the presence of Alviarin that makes Talene think Elaida’s Black Ajah. The Black Ajah somehow knows everything Elaida’s going to do before she does it. Because the Black Ajah, through Alviarin, is dictating what Elaida does. Causation is going the other way.
-Aes Sedai vomit a lot.
-Taim seems to think that three Aes Sedai would be bad, but two is ok. Is it because women are stronger when linked?
-Love the First Sister ceremony! :joy
-Toveine doesn’t understand how normal life can go on in the Black Tower. She’s shocked that women would stay married to their husbands in the Black Tower and that children are just acting normally. She thinks it all just heightens the ‘evil stench’
-Toveine spots Elayne and Birgitte on their inspection of the Tower grounds. She thinks Birgitte will get in trouble soon for imitating a Tower Guard.
-Cats hate men who channel. The people who live at the Tower have just gotten used to the existence of men who channel and the woman Toveine runs into just sees it as a slight annoyance that she can’t own a cat because of it.
-We see Androl! :D
-We hear about private lessons with Taim. Toveine is frustrated that she can’t figure out why that would be important.
-Mervin Poel is making a steamwagon! :D
-Idrien Tarsin only likes practical inventions (or ones whose practicality is obvious). She scoffs at Kin Tovere making a telescope, Meryl Harke making a glider, Jander Parentakis moving boats with waterwheels, and Ryn Anhara experimenting with electricity.
-Idrien thinks Niko Tokama’s invention is just silly, but the Companion unfortunately doesn’t say what it is. :\
-Lews Therin mentions ‘the other one’ in Rand’s head. Moridin after their balefire streams cross.
-What packets did Rand give Dobraine? And what did he mean by “Pry him out if need be, and decide by what he says. If you decide no, or he refuses, I’ll pick someone else. Not you.”

Chapter 1:
-One good thing the Seanchan did: take down the Whitecloaks where they went. The Whitecloaks in Amador are being forced to work taking refuse out of the city in wagons.
-Perrin is glad he didn’t let Faile come with him. If only he had… then we’d be spared this upcoming plotline. D:
-Aram is too intrigued by Masema… with how crazy he’s been already,
-Everyone knows Balwer digs for information, but he’s used to being a secret spymaster and still pretends as if no one but Perrin knows. (or does he have another reason for wanting to keep his actions secret?)
-King Ailron is trying to push out the Seanchan, but fails.
-Perrin assumes that Balwer was treated badly by Whitecloaks sometime in the past since he hates them so much now. He’s not wrong.

Re: Re-Readalong: Winter's Heart -- Prologue & Chapter 1

WH – Pro

Seaine – I commented on this a bit already but holy crap The Chair of Remorse is a terrible thing that should never be used. The Ajah Heads are straight up torturing a woman with no evidence except for Conjecture that she is a Black Sister.

Elayne - I love this part, the who first sister ceremony is awesome, I love the questions and answers that are given. Aviendha being afraid to swim is absolutely hilarious, and the slapping bit was great. The bad thing about this sequence was Taim staring at Elayne, I think it would have been better to have his eyes being on Elayne to be in her mind, but I think Taim was something of a wasted character in general.

Toveine – Nothing major here, we check in on the captured Sisters and learn that Logain and Taim do not get along.

Rand – And we start towards one of the biggest Climaxes in the series, all aboard the Hype Train.

Perrin - Nothing interesting here, or for the next several books for Poor Perrin.

WH chapter 1 : It is a Perrin chapter after Faile got captured. *clamps his hand over his ears* LA LA LA LA LA

WH Chapter 2 – 6 : I forgot how much of the early book was dedicated to Perrin and Faile. There is so much here that does happen but I just don't care about any of it. This plot should have ended with The Shaido joining in with the rest of the Aiel properly so they are at the last battle, and Faile's chapters should be giving us more about how Sevanna is leading the Shaido down a bad path because of her own pride, and should very frankly end with a new Shaido Chieftan returning from Rhudeian..and having to team up with Perrin to take out Sevanna.

They use the Chair not only because she refused to swear again, but because she tried to STAB one of them I think :look:

Re: Re-Readalong: Winter's Heart -- Prologue & Chapter 1

Rand gave Dobraine a letter making Darlin his steward in Tear. At the time, Caraline and Darlin was held "guests" by Cadsuane in Arylin's manor (since they rescued Rand in ACoS. Dobraine managed to free both and send them to Tear after Darlin accepted Rand's appointment. I think he also gave him a letter making Greganos (spelling) his steward in Illian.
