About the ending: It will be usual to have the big explosions at the end of the books - exception CoT, all explosions delayed - better get used to it.
So what is important at the end of TGH?
- The Seanchan are introduced, with a'dam & damane.
- Rand is wounded, and Lanfear turns up to heal him just enough to stay alive - and he begins to accept his mission.
- The split between Rand and Egwene, which began at the Eye, when Eg shrunk back from him when she realized he could channel, becomes permanent. Min's a bit cruel when she says "You threw him away for the White Tower", but still right on the mark. Great scene. She picks him up quite literally, grumbles about his weight and her fate, but she will support that lummox through many bad days to come.
- Fain escapes, too bad. Bayle Domon escapes too, but we'll be glad to meet him again.
- Falme? It will fall under Seanchan rule again soon enough - who cares?

Wow, you're fast. I'm still stuck at the book 1, mostly because I read before bedtime and my copy is falling apart, so I can't read it in bed... Does that even make sense? :look: But I'll get there! :tug

As for the transition - that was how I felt, too. So much happens in the final chapters of The Great Hunt, and then suddenly they're somewhere else almost as if nothing happened. :scratch
Theolyn Sedai, Reading is my downtime, sanity, escape...so yeah I read alot. My EotW copy is in a similar state to yours by the sound of things. I don't leave it anywhere a breeze might get to it in case I lose some lol.

Murun, I m not complaining about the story line itself, I've read it so many times and it still feels like I missed abit. Like when u take an extra step up at the top of a flight of stairs...whoops thought there was one more bit, and a little out of sync

I agree that the ending feels a bit rushed... So little happening in the middle part, and then suddenly EVERYTHING starts happening at once :look: But that is the norm of most adventure books I think. The only reason not all the WoT books are like that is because RJ soon realized that this would be a MUCH longer series than he had originally thought.. (He planned for this to be a trilogy! :eek Can you imagine?)

I wonder how much of the actual books he had written before he realized it was alot more than a trilogy...or was he thinking 'just one or two more books and its all wrapped up'?

Imagine turning around to look at your work and realising it turned out to be much more than a trilogy. :look:

There must be something in the air that so many of us decided to start a re-read :pleased-1:
I'm actually about halfway through The Dragon Reborn, so I was wondering if I could join your catch-up. I'm a bit of a slow reader BUT since I'm giving the Audiobooks a shot this time around, I've been able to be get through them faster than usual since I can pretty much listen anywhere :halo

Auri, you are very welcome :D Im not a very fast reader but I do read alot. Good luck with the audio books, sadly I pretty much pass out if I stop and actively listen to audio books.
Feel free to post in this thread or the Re-read along threads from earlier...definitely some interesting comments and observations from the main reading group. Enjoy ;)

I know what you mean Lei'Le, I used to be like that too  And sometimes I just have to keep pressing the replay last 30 seconds button because I totally space out :look: But I've gotten used to it enough that I can at least listen while doing some other minor things that don't require too much attention

That 30 second replay button is a lifesaver for me.

Go for it Nessa :) I've just started book 6 but I have 4&5 of another series waiting for me at the library, since they're on a time limit I'll read them first before continuing with Lords of Chaos

Auri, it doesn't work for me. Even sweeping I end up standing still with the broom in the middle of the room  or just forget to listen (probably something to do with the muttered swearing at my floors, kids not wiping their feet, kids and crumbs :pleased-1: you get the picture)

 This is a pretty accurate representation of my trying to listen to any audio book or podcast - I have to be able to dedicate 100% of my attention to it, so I've just gotta stick to the old fashioned way. :cheeseeni:

I'll be starting TDR today - I got through TGH pretty fast though so maybe I'll catch up quickly!

 Old fashioned way is awesome, though. I must confess, I'd never trade my hard copies for anything in the world. And I actually still buy hard copies even if I know I'll also end up getting the audiobook :look: I'm... weird...

TGH went by so fast for me!! I always remembered it as one of my least favorites in the series, but I really liked it this time round

I say "old fashioned" but I really mean "on a Kindle," I'm so pro-hard copies of things but getting things instantly is a huge draw for me.

I felt the same way about TGH! :fistbump It took me like, three days, but I definitely remember it taking a lot longer years ago; I just couldn't put it down this time around.

I'm halfway through Lord of Chaos...even knowing what was coming - and how this name starts a list in the story to come - still very apprehensive/sad

How's everyone's rereading going? I had to pause it, since a lot of school-related things came up and demanded my reading time (D: ), but I do like seeing other people's observations. :pleased-1:
