Well, the Old Tongue Dictionary is under "O" ;) But I agree that it is not all that I hoped. Too many persons, not enough of everything else. I also find it confusing that some characters are listed by their first name, and others by their last. They should have been listed under the name they are referred to the most in the series. (case example, Tallanwor. I didn't even KNOW his first name, but he is listed under "M" :look: )

Actually, characters are supposed to be listed under their last name, if professional standards are an issue.

Has anyone found an entry for the three arches that the accepted go through to be tested? Not sure what it'd be called aside from "three arches" or just "arches".

Cadsuane's strength is odd, she is stronger than Elayne or Egwene. This directly contradicts one of the glossaries where it states they are stronget than her, though not by much

I've been thinking about that. I mean, it could be a misprint, and that she should've been 8(+5) instead 5(+8), but ... which other glossary explicitly states from a non-character PoV that they are stronger than her? Her glossary only mentions Nynaeve being stronger. And in the books, she's never really compared directly with Elayne and Egwene, right? What we've got to go on is people saying that Elayne and Egwene might be the strongest in a thousand years, and most of those haven't met Cadsuane in 20 years, and so might not remember exactly what it's like to meet someone that much stronger.

Now, I'm more inclined to believe that it's a minor inconsistency, but I think it could be explained away as unreliable narrators.

What is the rule for spoilers?
I was highly amused by the Melli Craib entry, to see that she had always wanted to got to the Tower and be an Aes Sedai

In this thread you can post spoilers as much as you like. If people read this thread they have either read the book, or they are stupid or want to be spoiled :look:

It's in the Crown of Swords Glossary "they do not far outstrip her"

Cause she is a super duper special character, so previously established things are minor triflings.

I also just realised that there isn't really any new information about the Aelfinn and Eelfinn.

That's a major disappointment. :(

Yeah, I wasn't really expecting it, but it would've been nice. They're in the books for such a small amount of time and they're so intriguing!

I got the companion for Christmas and started to read it...then quickly realized my brain can't handle that much pure information, so now I just look up things as I think of them or as they come up in the re-readalong.

The first entry I looked up was Megana. Even though it really has nothing to do with me, it still felt cool to see my name in there. :pleased-1:

Actually, characters are supposed to be listed under their last name, if professional standards are an issue.

I was annoyed at first by how characters have entries under both first and last name. It makes for sooo many entries that just say "See X". :x But then I had to look up a character when I only knew one part of their name and I instantly got over that problem. I think going by first name makes good sense too, since some characters have more names than what you can easily determine to be "first" and "last".

Many characters are also mostly referred to by their first name, rather than last. Many last names are only used infrequently in the books. I mean, if you wanted to read about ... Seaine, for instance, I'd wager many people wouldn't recall immediately that her last name is Herimon.

Most of the Asha'man are only called by their last names. I was grateful for the "See Corlan Dashiva" entry when I started looking for Dashiva, because I had no idea what his first name was.

His name was in the books, but there are a couple given in the Companion that are not in the books. Not as many as I like
I always wondered if it had to do with us knowing a lot of them through Rand, who tends to think of them by their second name rather than their first, which may be something to do with him thinking of them as weapons rather than people
The ones at the Black Tower seemed to use first names a lot more (though not for all, Canler for instance)

I know Damer Flinn and Eben Hopwil. I think you're probably right, Toral, about the weapon thing.

One that bugged me was Tallanvor. I mean, I suppose his first name was mentioned once or twice, but EVERYONE in the books refers to him as Tallanvor. Yet in the Companion he is listed under "M" :desk
