Second-Annual JordanCon begins today!

JORDANCON II: “THE SEANCON INVASION” COMING TO ATLANTA

Fans Gather To Celebrate The Life And Works Of Robert Jordan

ATLANTA—Age of Legends, LLC is gearing up for the second annual JordanCon on April 23-25, 2010 in Atlanta, Georgia. JordanCon is a fan convention honoring the works of Robert Jordan and other notable authors of the fantasy genre. Robert Jordan is best known for his Wheel of Time series and has gained a devoted international fan base. Although the beloved author died from cardiac amyloidosis in 2007, his series is being concluded by best-selling author Brandon Sanderson.

The inaugural JordanCon in 2009 drew nearly 300 people from as far away as Europe. Team Jordan guests included Brandon Sanderson, author of the final Wheel of Time books; Harriet McDougal, Jordan’s wife and editor; Wilson Grooms, Jordan’s cousin and assistant blog writer; Maria Simons and Alan Romanczuk, Jordan’s assistants and the current continuity editors; and Tom Doherty, founder of Tor Books. The silent auction and charity poker tournament raised over $3,000 in memory of Robert Jordan for amyloidosis research at the Mayo Clinic, the facility where he received treatment for this rare disease.

This year’s JordanCon features a larger venue, new guests, and added programming. The event will take place at the Crowne Plaza Ravinia in Atlanta, Georgia. Returning guests include Team Jordan members Brandon Sanderson, Harriet McDougal, Wilson Grooms, Maria Simons, and Alan Romanczuk. This year’s guest list also marks the first-time inclusion of genre authors outside of The Wheel of Time series: David Wong, author of John Dies at the End, and Jana G. Oliver, author of the Time Rovers series. Guests also include Linda Taglieri, Wheel of Time blogger from 13depository.blogspot.com; toastmaster Matt Hatch, webmaster of theoryland.com; Jason Denzel, webmaster of www.DRAGONMOUNT.com; Jennifer Liang, Dragonmount staff, director of Wheel of Time programming for Dragon*Con, and chair of JordanCon; as well as other leaders within the Wheel of Time fan community.

Multiple programming tracks will offer interactive workshops, panels, and discussion groups for every aspect of fandom. The workshop track will bring the fantasy world to life through expert presentations in costuming, weapons, and performance arts by the Society of Creative Anachronism (SCA), Jendayi Bellydance of Atlanta, the Atlanta Jugglers Association, and skilled fans within the Wheel of Time community. Fans will celebrate the Wheel of Time in the “World of Wheel” track with games, entertainment, trivia contests, guest panels, and fan discussions. The forum track will host book discussions related to the Wheel of Time, the works of Brandon Sanderson, and David Wong’s John Dies at the End. Fans and aspiring writers will learn about writing, editing, and the publishing industry from authors Brandon Sanderson, David Wong, and Jana G. Oliver, and editor Harriet McDougal. The weekend will also include a costume contest, book signings, book readings, and a homecoming ball.

This year’s JordanCon will continue its fundraising efforts in memory of Robert Jordan. The charity poker tournament and silent auction will again raise funds for amyloidosis research at the Mayo Clinic.

Pre-registration for JordanCon is $60 and ends April 3, 2010. Memberships will be available at the door for $65. For more information, including programming schedule, guest bios, hotel and travel information, and pre-registration, visit www.ageoflegends.net.
