Part of me wonders what it would have taken to buy the rights off them, full stop. They'd still have made out like bandits, all things considered, and it would have saved a lot of unnecessary headaches.

Here's hoping the court rules for Harriet...

I feel like starting a Kickstarter (or whatever the similar thing is in this case) to fund Harriet's legal fees :look She shouldn't have to end up even a penny out of pocket to this bunch of clowns.

The thing that blows my mind on this whole debacle is that Red Eagle would want to operate in any capacity against the wishes of RJ's estate and Harriet. It makes no sense. How did these fools even end up with the rights to begin with?

Also really cool of y'all to want to help with legal fee's. I'm curious how much money Red Eagle would be able to muster in the face of what looks like so many spectacular failures.

I saw on another site that the reason, probably, that Red Eagle created Manetheren, LLC is because RE couldn't pay its taxes and the Franchise Tax Board went after them. The Franchise Tax Board is California's version of the IRS - they take care of state taxes.

My parents didn't pay their California state taxes when I was about 8 years old. And I remember that the Franchise Tax Board was VICIOUS. They drained every bank account even remotely linked with my parents - even my little $80 savings account - and just kept taking and taking until my parents could prove that the FTB had taken too much and needed to stop.

You know that when an 8-year-old remembers something about taxes, of all things, then it was serious.

So I'd wager Red Eagle's ass is going to get kicked by the Franchise Tax Board. And I look forward to that thorough ass-kicking. When it comes to taxes, you do NOT mess with the state of California.

I doubt they have any legitimate intention of doing anything with the rights now, it's probably just about getting as much dollar as they can out of it, sadly (imo)

Saddening since an HBO style episodic show works great with something like this I think (proved by GoT mostly.) Heck, I'd take something like Merlin even if it was done with love and care.

    Not... this.

Not exactly. There was a ***ty "pilot" aired during paid programming in the middle of the night (the time that infomercials are usually on) that was made and aired at the last minute so that Red Eagle/Manetheren LLC could keep the rights to WoT, which were set to expire literally within a day or two if they didn't produce something. The "pilot" is called Winter Dragon, you can YouTube it.

When Harriet expressed her displeasure that it was created without her knowledge, and expressed that she thought the "pilot" wasn't of the best quality, RE/Manetheren sued the company that owns WoT (the Bandersnatch Group) AND sued Harriet personally. It's a big cluster****. Normally I don't use this kind of language on the forums, but this makes me (and a lot of other people) extremely angry.

*instantly remembers a saying of Mattrim Cauthon*
"one pretty girl means fun at the dance, two pretty girls mean trouble in the house, three pretty girls means run for the hills"
Running for the hills probably won't be enough if there are angry Aes Sedai, let alone three of them (or however many there are on this forum).

What RE/Manetheren, LLC did is basically the equivalent of drawing the attacks of the White Tower, the Black Tower, the Seanchan, the Aiel, and every land in between. Normally, I'd say Light save their souls...but to Shayol Ghul with them :|

I think (if HBO didn't pick it up) it could be done really well as a fan-made production, if it's done by someone like Kate Madison (who made Born of Hope). Of course, that still doesn't solve the rights issue.
