If you where in charge of the tv show or film. Or for some other reason you had to edit the story down.

What do you think could be lost, without impacting the story too much? Or is there anything you feel the story could have done without in the first place?

About half of Winters Heart, and nearly all of Path of Daggers :look:

More specific, I could do with less descriptions of dresses and such, but then that is just my opinion :look:

Rand's and Perrin's angsty inner monologues and the entire Berelain/Faile fighting over Perrin thing.

More than anything, Aram the Tinker.

I would also cut down book 10, I understand how Necessary, as the events of book nine would infact make everyone stop and go :brown-blink:

Well...

Okay Book 10 was a slow plodding mess.

However, I do think it was still a necessary part of the series since what happened at the end of The Previous book, was a world altering event and that much of the one power getting channeled would freak EVERYONE out and it was somewhat important to see people react to it, in a TV series though you could cut from the action and show peoples reacting to the event as it is happening coming back from commercial breaks, in the overall plot structure of the ENTIRE series it is the lowering of action after the Middle of the road Climax.

Much as Shadow Rising is a lower action book than Dragon Reborn was.

Aram doesn't really have that big time of a part anyway. He's just an important minor character. Definitely most of the wolf dreams, and for the love of the Light, why all the training at the end of the series?? That would have been better than searching for Faile for, what, three books?

In TV, I wouldn't cut anything.... the labored descriptions turn visual, the long cut scenes to show what is going on around the world would take two to five minutes each instead of half of a book, and the inner monologues would no longer exist, which would get rid of most of the angst.

Wheel of Time is one of the few book series that I feel would be better as a TV show, if done right.

Very true. And I imagine it would probably be more interesting to watch than to read. I just had a heck of a time getting through that book!

Less Andorian politics. I agree sooo much about the search for Faile. Fewer peripheral characters.

As Ty said, though, when converted to a visual medium, a lot of the laborious detail does not really take up much time, certainly not compared to reading it.

I wouldn't cut book 10. I'd integrate it with book 9's ending. Everyone looking at the event while it's happening. That would also explain the forsaken's arrival.

Listening to Lord of Chaos.

I think something else that could be cut could cut a great deal of Rand's bickering with the Maidens of the Spear, it does not really add anything of particular need, Rand can still have the list, I would just after the Shadar Logath bit have the maidens listen to him a bit more after they lost one of their own from not following his orders.

Ryu, doing that that would utterly destroy the dynamic between the Maidens and Rand. o_O

That would not be a bad thing Aes Sedai, Rand's issues with the Maidens doesn't really add anything to the plot. The Death list is the only remotely important thing that it is tied too but that was a thing that was happening anyways and not really tied to Rand not getting Ji'E'Toh.

I could do without any and all of Aviendha's trip down the lane of memories in Rhuidean.

And the trip with Lanfear via the Portal stones dragged on a bit.

Aviendha's trip gives a glimpse into the future, one we wouldn't get otherwise.

I'm on the fence about the Seanchan and describing their culture. We hear so much about the caste system and the hair and nails. I know it's an important part of the culture and hence the plot, but sometimes, I got sick of hearing about scantily clothed slaves prostrating themselves.

Which brings up another question. To include nudity or not? For example, da'covale, Sea Folk women, some dealings in the Hall of the Tower, Graendal, etc.
