EDIT: Never mind. I went into the glitter avatar thread in Graphic Projects and Requests and saw Anujun's explanation there. I will make new ones at 125x125. (And thanks for explaning the reasoning behind it and the process instead of just, "this is what you need to do." That was really cool!)

I saved my animated avatar as a .gif but it's not animated once I upload it. Any suggestions?

If you're using Photoshop, instead of using "Save as" to make a gif, you have to use "Save for web" for it to be animated. In newer versions, this is under the Export menu, and is called "Save for web (Legacy)". Choose gif in the drop-down, and here you can also choose other settings, like how many colours, or whether there is transparency.
