The Welcoming Committee has numbered in 3-4 members for quite a while. Following a recent approval, the Welcoming Committee will be expanded to 5 members, with the addition of invited guest(s) to work on secret "Mayor Projects". There is a 6 month trial period of this restructure, and if it is successful, it will become permanent. This term of Welcoming Committee members will also have a 6 month term, as is traditional, and will start in January 2015. ***Edit: (I will accept applications for this position through December 28th so there is a little time for training and permissions changes.)

About the New WC Forum:

There are a bunch of threads in the WC forum, each detailing a project. (They exist in addition to regular social threads.) Anyone on the WC Committee will be invited to work on any of these projects at any time. The aforementioned proposal has given a go-ahead to open a bunch of new avenues to enhance our new members' experience. If you have a passion for our new members or want to help them be more active--this team is for you! (If you don't have a passion for that, you should at least have a passion for storytelling, getting to know other site members through PMs or VMs, enjoy making sigs or avatars, or possess a love of spreadsheets.)

About the New WC Specializations:

The Welcoming Committee will consist of 5 members, including optional subsets as follows: 2 Greeters, 1 Scribe, and 2 Renaissance Men/Women. The Greeters will be traditional WC members and greet as they always have. They will patrol the Introductions Forum and work with visitors, helping them get avatars, get enough posts, and become citizens. Their main thread here is the Greeting Journal, where they will keep everyone (including me) up to date on who they've greeted.

The Scribe will maintain a Google Drive spreadsheet of the active visitors and track their credentials toward becoming a citizen as they move through the process. This will involve verifying avatars, recording dates, and getting information from the Greeters and making sure it is organized. They will also help the Mayor organize documents or record information in other areas, but as those areas are still developing we don't really know what they are yet! This is great for a person who loves spreadsheets but perhaps is a little shy and doesn't really want to send 25 PMs a day.

And finally the Renaissance Men and Women! In short, this duo will work everywhere. If this is you, I expect you to at least glance in every thread and help out wherever you see progress can occur or help is needed. Above all you must be tactful--both to the other administrators here, to new members, and to me. I want you to be creative and challenge things you see in order to determine if you can do it better, get it done now, help do it faster, or fix broken things. However, as you are working in threads where you are not the primary leader, the phrasing of your suggestions is extremely important. Be sensitive, intelligent, and badass!
All these positions are considered "Welcoming Committee" members and are considered to provide guidance on how I would like to see this team function, but you can fit in one category or all categories--that is up to you. The identities of these subset is completely flexible. As we've never done this before, changes will almost assuredly be made, and you might be the one spearheading that change. ;)

Finally, my goal for you is to become a more informed and skilled person by working on this team, and if I can help you in this regard, I will.

Requirements:

  • Be a full member of the site (i.e. not a visitor).
  • Have an email address you are willing to share with at least the mayor. Some of the projects will require you to have an email you are willing to share with everyone in the forum. If you uncomfortable using your primary email, creating a faux-email whose only use is for this forum is okay.
  • Be trainable - You don't have to know anything coming into this position. I can teach you everything you need to know, but for some things I will be using Google Drive, a set of Microsoft Office-esque free online programs, and I may expect you to be open to learning how to use it. I will warn you I am also idealistic and ambitious. I am going to challenge you and pull you into work to make awesome things. This is a much more mobile Welcoming Committee than we have seen in the past.
Helpful Skills and Resources:

  • I find it efficient to train via voice chat (or video chat). The capability to be on Skype with a microphone and/or headset may be useful. If you don't have such a thing, don't worry. We can train on IRC, Google Hangouts, or email. We have the technology. :pleased-1:
To Apply:

Please send me an email to mayor@tarvalon.net, keeper@tarvalon.net, and membership@tarvalon.net saying you would like to apply to the Welcoming Committee. If you have a preference, please state whether you gravitate toward being a Greeter, the Scribe, a Renaissance Wo/Man, or multiple specializations. If you have no preference, please mention this (so I know you didn't just forget to say anything.)

Feel free to tell me why you would be a good person for this position. You may describe initiatives you've done in the past, detail your skills, or elaborate on your vision.

With your help, this next year will be a huge success for City Hall. I'm looking forward to working with you.

Re: Hiring: Welcoming Committee - revamped!

Please forgive my thoughtlessness. This was my first time publishing a hiring post. D: This does not excuse me for forgetting to thank my current, amazing team, but I still am sorry for the misstep.

Thank you Jeem, Luna, and Sailea for your hard work this past term. I know I came onto the team part way through your term, and I would like to say thank you for putting up with me. :p I threw some new ideas at you and "stirred the pot" so to speak, but you were amazingly open-minded and constructive at the all the ideas I brought to the table. Your help has been invaluable bringing this restructure to fruition and providing feedback to polish up our instruction threads. Jeem your straight-forward perspective provides an integral part of this team. Luna, your experience on multiple WCs has been invaluable. And Sailea, thank you for letting me look over your shoulder to see how you manage your personal records. I appreciate all of your hard work, and I hope you will consider re-applying this next term.

Thank you so very much, Zandera! :hug It has been such a pleasure working with you, and I must admit that these novelties you are introducing to the WC are brilliant. I cannot wait to see them in action.
