The only thing I can remember is what Preservation did to Elend.
I remember him trying to get Elend to not go to Luthadel by pointing... but when talking to Kelsier, he talks about trying to get through to Vin, too. He even initially is hopeful that Vin understands what he wants her to do... But what did he do? I remember Vin seeing the mist spirit several times, but I'm honestly blanking on what it actually did when she saw it. :scratch

Didn’t she try to chase it a few times? I think also she tried to talk to it to no avail.

Just looked it up. the UK got a hardcover release of it, here in the US we only got an ebook/Arcanum Unbounded version of it.
If so, it is a hardcover AND e-book release :) Happy I could get the UK version then :)

(In general, the UK/European covers for Sandersons books are SO PRETTY :love )

Well, I read all 4 parts in two sittings yesterday. I am enthralled by secret history. It has answered a lot of the questions I've had for years. I wish I had read this sooner, but at the same time I am hyped I am reading it now.

Yes, I loved it :) And it explains a lot of the things in the Wax and Wayne trilogy as well, which is why I wanted us to read this one first ;)

So I definitely remember the name Nazh from maps etc in Stormlight, is the name Khriss ever mentioned? Also this is making me realize it's been a looong time since I read Elantris and that I remember very little of it.

Khriss is present in Stormlight Archive I believe. And also in the White Sand comic.

Khriss doesn't appear in Stormlight but she has a cameo scene in the Wax & Wayne trilogy.
She's the author of all the Ars Arcana sections at the ends of the books, and Sanderson has said she's probably the most comprehensively knowledgeable person in the Cosmere, even more than Hoid.

Since I haven't read Alloy of law in oh, 10 years, and haven't read the following two books, which one does she appear in so I don't search myself and do a lot of spoilin'

She's in Bands of Mourning. Wax briefly runs into her at a dance when they go to New Seran. It's a delightful easter egg.

I thought Khriss was in Words of Radiance?

Isn't she the person with the mask in the Ghostbloods? Who follow Shallan when she needs to get into the monastery...

Spoilers for Bands of Mourning and Oathbringer

Do you mean Iyatil, Aduiavas Sedai? She is not Khriss but an descendent of the Southern Scadrians.

Khriss is one of the founders for a university in Silverlight though, so she has clear connections to Stormlight

Right, I'm sure she'll appear in Stormlight eventually, just hasn't appeared in person yet.

It's so hard to know sometimes! Brandon has answered a question to that effect, though, at a release party in November. I'll put it behind a tag.

Questioner
So Iyatil, is she from Scadrial?

Brandon Sanderson
Her heritage is Scadrian but she actually wasn't born on Scadrial. But yes and no in that way.

Questioner
So she has a relation to the Hunters then?

Brandon Sanderson
Yes, that's her heritage but she's actually from a city in the Cognitive Realm.

Here are some of my thoughts.

  • Honestly, never really understood the whole 'Cognitive' stuff with the whole shard system and this more or less helped me understand it better.
  • I like that immediately upon death, Kelsier tries to come up with a plan that included preservation.
  • Also, that he punches god directly in the face upon realizing he's dead
  • Getting himself bound to Ruin was a surprise. Was not expecting that. I kinda can't believe Preservation did that for him knowing the risk.
  • No idea who Khriss is, but I own White Sand v1 so I guess I should read that now...
  • Kelsier has learned how to manipulate items in the Cognitive realm. This is an interesting development.
  • He obviously has Ruin a bit afraid if Ruin has appeared to him before he heads off tot he land of Ire, telling him he can't do anything. He's trying to scare him.

It's really cool getting to see the Cognitive Realm here. I first read Mistborn like 10 years ago and read Stormlight Archives more recently, so it's fun to see the Cosmere click together a bit more and see Kelsier doing some of the same things we saw characters in Stormlight Archives doing, like learning how objects work in the Cognitive Realm and how to make the logs burn. It's also interesting that the earthquakes can be felt there, too.

Yeah! I liked connecting it to Stormlight Archives and Shallan's experiences, including "I am a stick" :giggle

Oh yes, also that:

Preservation didn't actually stab Elend. It was Kelsier guiding Preservation's hand.
