That's very much along the lines of my theory. I've always thought that Moridin will possibly realize that (to coin a phrase from Brandon Sanderson) it's all about "journey before destination," and that the inevitability of the DO winning isn't a reason to make that ending come any sooner. Remember, Moridin isn't selfish anymore, he's nihilistic. Then, due to this revelation will use the link with Rand to switch bodies with him, causing Moridin to sacrifice himself so that Rand may live.

Well...you know I have a soft spot for Mierin. :look: Yes, she was crazy obsessed with a man. But jealousy isn't as terrible as the reasons for the others to turn, except for Ishamael. I hope that there's a way for the mind trap to be released & she can at least "pull an Ingtar". :cheeseeni:

Eh, her jealousy wasn't all of it, though, her love of power was the majority of it.

When Rand looked into those beautiful, terrible eyes he called her "Mierin". :joy

"My name is LANFEAR!"

Well you know what you get for forgetting things.........

Now don't do it again

:P

Fishmalk!

I just can't see Demandred turning. He has waited 3000 years to kill Lews Therin. His hatred is just about all he has left.

I don't think Moridin will turn either. But he at least is not truly 'evil' like the others (Although he is definitely insane from True Power overuse), and unlike the others not particularly selfish.

I do, however, see a surprise ending in the Pit of Doom involving Rand, Moridin, and Demandred happening.

I would argue that Moridin's lack of selfishness makes him capable of more evil than the rest.

I don't think I can say Mierin will turn for the good side but she is selfish enough to go with which ever side helps her the most. She might help Rand now and then but only to help herself!

Speaking of thw Forsaken.... whose side is Lanfear really on... my sister hypothesises that Lanfear is maddly in love and not truely evil. I think that Lanfear is just plain insane and power hungry.

I'm going to go with insane too. She's clearly very intelligent, and on my reread I don't think she starts out that way, so I'm going to say it probably starts when she's trapped with Moraine through the redstone doorway. That would make anyone insane.

I think Lanfear starts out evil in the D&D sense (i.e. being motivated entirely by self-interest), not in the sense of being truly dedicated to the Dark One. I just finished re-reading her first couple appearances in tGH, and everything she does, especially in Cairhien, reads to me as though she's far more invested in her own interests than those of the Dark as a whole.

I do agree that by the end she's pretty far off her rocker, but I would say it's more out of obsession with and desire to possess Rand/Lews Therin (because I don't think she sees a difference at all) than what I would classify as love. Probably, she was a little crazy even when she first broke free of the seals. She displays obsessive, stalker-ish behavior right from the first, and it's not like intelligence and insanity are mutually exclusive. Take a look at Ishamael or Mordeth, for instance.
