Re: Re-Readalong: Crossroads of Twilight, Prologue

I made myself pick up my Companion book again to start checking all of these names, because about now I've lost track of who some of these people are. :look:

I enjoyed the Gabrelle and Yukiri bits, but some of the others weren't super interesting to me. And then I got really confused about what Loial was doing with some random Asha'man. That feels like sooooo long ago that they left!

I don't think we get a Logain POV until the Last Battle :look:

Knife of Dreams, chapter 22 "To Make an Anchor Weep": Logain meets Zaida and the clan wave-mistresses of the Atha'an Miere; I like how he handles the whole encounter with these ladies; and his last line is chillingly awesome: "mourn if you must," he said, "but mourn on the march for Tarmon Gai'don."

That is not a Logain POV though, it is the POV of Harine, the Sea Folk ambassador :look:

True :) I missed the Crossroads of Twilight Logain PoV. Are you referring to Tovaine's ride from her house to Logain's hut and her opinion of Gabrelle's nocturnal activities with Logain? Or to something else?

Re: Re-Readalong: Crossroads of Twilight, Prologue

I am not sure I understand your question :look: I am saying that there is no Logain PoV until the last book. Lots of PoVs AROUND him, such as the Harine PoV we just discussed, and the Toveine one you mention, but none from Logain himself.
I actually think that is brilliant, as it gives us a lot of information about him, but we can never be sure that it it "correct"...

Sorry :) I understood your statement as saying that "we don't get 'another' Logain PoV till the Last Battle." Thanks for the clarification :bow

Re: Re-Readalong: Crossroads of Twilight, Chapters 5-9

Just finished the Prologue, and I remember now another reason for disliking the book. SO. MANY. WORDS. Ok, many of the things happening are good ot know, but it takes too long to get there... Especially the Black Tower and White Tower parts... And what really happened in Andor? Or Cairhien? Sure, the seals were stolen back, but did we need to hear that "live" and then not understand what it is until the last book? Too many words, not enough action...

Re: Re-Readalong: Crossroads of Twilight, Chapters 5-9

When I first read the books Perrin & Faile were some of my favorite characters, so I was very invested in the Shaido kidnapping storyline. I do remember being VERY frustrated that so little happened with Perrin's search in this book. The first time I read it I kept waiting for their part of the story to pick up again only to get to the end of the book and find that it never did. And having to wait another year or more for the next book was SO frustrating!

Still, I felt that the way the women developed during their captivity was realistic. I'll try to remember to comment more on this when we eventually get to that part of the story (which is in the next book I think).

After having read and listened to the books so many times, Perrin & Faile are no longer my very favorites (though I do still like them a lot) but I'm no less invested in the Shaido/rescue part of the story. I know that so many people absolutely hate that part but I don't. :)

Re: Re-Readalong: Crossroads of Twilight, Chapters 5-9

Yeah, as much as Faile annoys me, she's more interesting to read about during her captivity than Perrin is. Yesterday, I literally opened the book to read the chapters for this week, saw it was a Perrin chapter, and decided to read Libriomancer instead.

Re: Re-Readalong: Crossroads of Twilight, Chapters 5-9

For me ... Crossroads of Twilight (book 10) served the purpose of making Knives of Dreams (book 11) more awesome; and 11 is awesome on its own! ... It was RJ's redemption; and he sadly didn't live enough to continue that awesome ending to his epic.

The only bright spot in the whole Faile rescue arc is Berelain. She was the level-headed leader who kept Perrin from doing too many silly things. People would hold her "love rumors" against her. But I don't. She's a willful, strong woman :)

Re: Re-Readalong: Crossroads of Twilight, Chapters 5-9

Prologue:
-Ituralde is trying to lay a trap for the Seanchan, so he can actually try to be effective for once.
-Gabrelle is baffled by how distrustful Logain is of other Asha’man, more distrustful of them than of any Aes Sedai.
-She can tell that Logain and Taim don’t trust each other, as can the other Aes Sedai, though some just think it’s because they both claimed to be the Dragon, or possibly because they’ve both gone mad.
-Yukiri starts to suspect Alviarin, partially due to her disappearance.
-The Younglings have been expelled from Tar Valon, at Elaida’s order. She just wants to be done with them.
-What ‘mysterious army’ in Dorlan is Gawyn talking about? :scratch
-Bashere is using the looking glass that Rand gave him.
-Bashere is certain that Tenobia wants him dead.
-Do we ever find out who the men who attacked Deira were? Were they just random robbers? Or were they Darkfriends? Looking for the Seals?
-Who is Bashere meeting with? Who came to see him yesterday???? :scratch
-Sashalle is starting to dress like a Wise One, seemingly with their approval.
-The Wise Ones treat the Aes Sedai who captured Rand and were stilled at Dumai’s Wells differently than the ones who weren’t. Possibly because they feel like they already were punished for their crimes enough. They’re not treated as apprentices as much.
-Master Underhill. A Lord of the Rings reference?
-What were the people who almost killed Dobraine looking for? The seals?

Re: Re-Readalong: Crossroads of Twilight, Chapters 10-14

The attacks on Dobraine and Bashere's tent were most probably by Taim to steal the remaining seals. Bashere's meeting was probably with one of Logain's men or Logain himself.

Re: Re-Readalong: Crossroads of Twilight, Chapters 10-14

CoT – Chapter 1

And this is where Egeain goes completely off the rails.

CoT – Chapter 2

Mat's plan here is sound, if Luca ran off that night it would be supicious.

CoT – Chapter 3

Mat can feel that Rand is cleansing the taint.

CoT – Chapter 4

Mor is so close to the truth on this, but he completely misses the mark in thinking that Suroth is working for the White Tower and not the Forsaken.

CoT - Chapter 5

And here we go, Perrin's plot of doom in full swing.

CoT - Chapter 6

And Dark hounds..that don't ever come up again.

The sad Part is, i liked those chapters more than probably the rest of Perrin's plot in the next few books.

Crossroads of Twilight and Knife of Dreams for me are:
- Read Mat, Rand, and Egwene
- Ignore Elayne, Perrin, and Faile

Re: Re-Readalong: Crossroads of Twilight, Chapters 15-18

Chapter 1:
-Noal knows of recipes from Shara.
-There’s a lot of ta’veren luck in the fact that neither Tuon nor Selucia shouted and gave them away while they were passing through the gate.

Chapter 2:
-Luca's circus. Not much to say here. :cheeseeni:

Chapter 3:
-Mat doesn’t understand why the dice stopped in his head when they were in the gate leaving Ebou Dar. Was it just because they managed to get away without notice?
-Domon notices that Egeaning freaks out whenever she remembers Mat saying that she was married to Tuon. He doesn’t know why, though.
-Tuon asks Mat if he remembers Hawkwing’s face. They’ve both had prophecies about each other.
-Tuon can read the Old Tongue and wonders about the writing on Mat’s spear.
-The dice stop when Mat and Tuon make their agreement, the third time the dice had stopped in Tuon’s presence.
-They learn that Tylin’s dead. I really feel bad for Mat and the responsibility he feels for her death. :(
-Luca’s circus has been searched four times for women who can channel. That’s impressive that they managed to avoid the channelers there being found out. :brown-blink: I mean, I realize their wagons are far from everything, but you’d think the patrols would search everywhere, especially the 4[SUP]th[/SUP] time.
-The colors in Mat’s head actually form a full image this time, showing him Rand and Nynaeve
-Mat thinks the dice stopping have something to do with what Rand’s doing. But there isn’t any stopping of the dice that’s unaccounted for, is there?

Chapter 4:
-The Seanchan still think the Gateway exploding was a weapon.
-The Seanchan have ‘breeding books’ to keep track of ancestry. Da’covale are not allowed to see them, though, which includes the Deathwatch Guard.
-Among the events on the day of Tuon’s disappearance, Karede and Mor both feel that Tylin’s murder is the least unpleasant one.
-Mor is close on a lot of fronts here, but misses on some important ones.
-Is the ‘woman with the Seandar accent’ anyone we know?
-Anath (Semirhage) has ‘taken to seclusion
-The Deathwatch Guard first began by soldiers swearing on Luthair Paendrag’s corpse to defend his son.
-Mentioning someone’s birth name (or possibly just certain members of the Blood’s birth name, such as Tuon) is an insult, even if they’re not around.
-Karede is very attached to Tuon, though he’s only supposed to be loyal to the Daughter of the Nine Moons, whoever she may be.
-Mor may be wrong about a lot, but his assumptions are pretty sound. It is true that the sul’dam used in the escape are related to Suroth, but only because of their secret… a secret other people know and can use.

I don't think this is Luck, remember Tuon got a foretelling from the one Da'mane

"Beware the fox that makes the ravens fly, for he will marry you and carry you away. Beware the man who remembers Hawkwing's face, for he will marry you and set you free. Beware the man of the red hand, for him you will marry and none other."

Tuon knew Mat would carry her away when she first met him and saw his ring.
