Finished Memories of Ice....not sure how I feel about it....
My choice of words for me would be blown away. Amazing book, one of my favourites.
Also new book from Esslemont end of the month (as well as next Kharkanas book from Erikson)
Will be an interesting read hopefully.
I head the new prequel Erikson trilogy was not as impressive as the other 10. I will read it after the main sequence. Whats your view on it?
And I don't know...MoI just underwhelmed I guess. I loved it. I thought the buildup and pacing were perfect. But it may be because I took so many breaks that I didn't get the full impact I was supposed to when I reached the end. A lot of people say this is the best of the 10. I wonder how I will take the rest of the series...
I've not started the Kharkanas lot yet, waiting for all three to be out first so I can bulk read. Probably will do the same with the new Esslemont series.
The book of the fallen series changes so much along the way id not worry about a general feeling, Midnight Tides is my second favourite of the series and that has a completely different feel to the others if you ask me. Just go with it and try and remember all the myriad characters as they come and go.
Anything with Tehol and Bugg in it, is amazing.
Path To Asendancy Book 1 out today, Dancers Lament by Ian C Esslemont
I am really enjoying Malazan. I just finished up Toll the Hounds. I would say there are times that I want to be following one characters arc, and I don't see them for over a book, and that's a little bit disappointing. The way the magic works in the universe is extremely intriguing to me, and I have really enjoyed reading them.
Toll the Hounds is hands down my favourite book from the series!! After The previous three books (which focus very little on events in Genabackis if i recall correctly) it's nice to get back to that setting and continue some of the story arcs from there in Toll the Hounds. For me it was one of the books that evoked the most emotion, especially in regards to events
between Anomander and Hood and what happens to Challice Vidikas at the end
. I might have to do a re-read of the series soon, its been a while.
I think House of Chains has been my favorite so far. I honestly disliked Karsa Orlong's story to start off, but he quickly grew on me, and by the end of the book I was left wanting more of his story. I also enjoyed the introduction of Trull Sengar, and the introduction of the Tiste Edur.
Yeah i dreaded reading about Karsa Orlong at the beginning of his arc and he only moderately improved for me over the course of the series. But the relationship between Onrack and Trull Sengar was well written, and even Trull on his own was fun to read about.
I was so upset at the beginning of that book because I wanted to know what happened with Toc the younger so bad!
I'm working on it!
Sometimes it is quiet a quest (when you read translated books and talk to people who read the original language...) to figure out who is who.
In Malazan there are many meaningful names, and of course there are translations of these names.
I' now at chapter 4 of book 1
So, I'm in a Malazan group on facebook, sometimes absolute gems appear! There are names that might be seen as spoilers, but no actual story in this particular screen shot. That said, I'm putting it within spoiler tags anyway.
Found an excellent introduction to the Malazan series. It's massive, just like the books though. https://imgur.com/gallery/M95FK
As a book it would be really great.
