Anyone have recommendations for mystery novels with particularly compelling characters? I just finished J.K. Rowling's Cormoran Strike series and am going through major withdrawal. Hoping to find something just as good to read while I await the fourth Strike book. :)

A Geek Girl's Guide to Murder. It's not the most amazing book ever, but it's cute and the main character likes to cosplay and play MMOs and works at a Ren Faire. ^^

Brilliant aren't they? I've never read anything similar so would be interested in suggestions too.

Have you heard anything on the fourth strike books release?

I also love the Strike books. Other mysteries that I've enjoyed include:

    Everything written by Karin Fossum
Garnethill and sequels by Denise Mina
The first few Will Trent books by Karin Slaughter, I might still get back to these one day, they're fascinating but they're also really dark and unhappy and these days I like my happy endings.
Inspector Montalbano books by Andrea Camilleri, these are funny little books set in Sicily

Any of Kathy Reichs novels. Temperance Brennan is an amazing character. I think the way she mixes together the crime/mystery/science aspects of her books is great, and much of what she describes in her books, especially in Deja Dead and Grave Secrets, is based on her real life experiences as a forensic anthropologist.

The Poirot Mysteries by Agatha Christie are my favorite. The main character is quirky but always suave too!

Sally Lockheart Mysteries (4 books as I know of) by Philip Pullman.

I love the Agent Monk Mysteries by Anne Perry too!
