Hey everyone! After four and a half years of serving as Keeper, I've decided I'm ready to step back and redirect my time and energies elsewhere. We have an active and capable Executive team, the administration is full of innovative, hard workers, and we're incorporated and looking towards the future. It's time to let someone else step up with fresh enthusiasm and a different perspective and see where they can take things. I'm excited to see where this new era takes us. :D

This is the first time we've had a position of this magnitude change holders since we restructured the administration after Val and Elyna left as Master at Arms and Keeper. The legalities of the position of an Officer and the fact that I am also on the Board make this a more complex transition than most other positions. Here are the things that are not changing:

  • I will still remain on the Board of Directors.[/*:m:k7rc23mv]
  • I will still be involved in the administration.[/*:m:k7rc23mv][/list:embarassed::k7rc23mv]

Here are the things that are changing:
    • Currently the Keeper/COO carries the duties of both the Vice President and the Secretary, as outlined in the Bylaws. This means that the duty set of the Keeper carries includes membership escalation issues, the administration as a whole, and the legal responsibilities of record-keeping, minutes of meetings, and the seal of the corporation. We will be shifting these responsibilities around. The Keeper/COO will retain the duties of the VP, which means that the position will be responsible for the administration and all its dealings. The membership escalation issues will shift under the Amyrlin/CEO, which is in line with the other duties of the position. The legal responsibilities will shift to a new position called Tower Archivist, which will take over the duties of the Secretary as outlined in the Bylaws. The Secretary position will be an Officer of the corporation and will be responsible for keeping all records, keeping abreast of the legalities involved with a charitable corporation, and handling the legal aspects of staying incorporated.[/*:m:k7rc23mv]
    • Because I would naturally be retaining some of those duties anyway (such as keeping the physical records, due to my proximity to the PO Box, and some of the legal responsibilities because of my position as agent/incorporator in the state of Alabama), I will fill the position of Tower Archivist.[/*:m:k7rc23mv]
    • Given the shift of the position of Keeper to encompass COO, the Keeper may be of either gender.[/*:m:k7rc23mv][/list:embarassed::k7rc23mv]

Because this position is so different from most other positions, we'll be going about it differently. A list of the requirements and duties will be posted, as normal. However, before the actual application will be sent in, people interested in the position will need to email me and receive a file about the way the position functions within the administration and some of its intricacies. This is an administration that has been tailored to fit my style, and anyone who wants to apply for it needs to have an idea of what that means and whether or not they'd even be able to fit themselves into it well enough to shift it into what they would work best with. There will also probably be an interview process where the Board talks with the top applicants.

This extends out the application process more than we usually take. The general goal is to have the new COO selected by the beginning of January so that we can potentially install the new Keeper officially at the North American anniversary party, in a nice bit of symmetry to my own ceremony.

I cannot tell you all how much I have enjoyed serving in this capacity. I have grown and changed more than I thought possible when I first took it on. The Tower, in all of its aspects, has been a central part of my life for many years, and I am happy that I was able to make my mark on it. I know that this will be an odd transition for many of us, and that I am the only Keeper many of you have ever known. Things will change, as they always must, but I know we'll all adjust to having someone else in that position in no time.

Ms. Montsier....

Words cannot express how grateful I am to you for your service, and for what you have done for our community. It is only recently that I've gotten to "work" with you, but I remember fondly time we spent together the very first time we met, in Tennessee. Ever since then I have considered you one of my dearest friends.

I don't think we would be where we are today if it weren't for your dedication, your firmness, and you're willing to do whatever work needed to be done. You took the role of Keeper of the Chronicles and you ran with it, making it into a force to be reckoned with. I'm thankful that you love this place as much as I do, and you are willing to do whatever it takes to make it the best it can be.

I would be sad, but you've earned a well-deserved break, and I know you're not going away, and you're not going far.

Thank you. Thank you for your time and effort on our behalf. Thank you for helping make this place into my home on the world wide web.

I'm with Sa'. Too many words to express my gratitude for all that you have done, however I am relieved that you will be staying on as Administration in some capacity. It won't be the same without you.

You're amazing, and have an incredibly large place to fill in the hearts and minds of this Community.

Enjoy having a bit more (well in theory anyway, we all know how you like to take on new challenges!) free time to play around with!

Dralyn -

Thank you for all your hard work over the last four and a half years. You have helped make the Tower the amazing place it is today. I can directly thank you as being one of the reasons I made it to Gaidin, as you were one of my sponsors. It always gave me joy to be able to say the Keeper was my sponsor. I am also thankful for the opportunity to meet you this last March at 9th Anni. You are just as amazing in person as you are online. I really don't know what else there is to say. Thank you for what you've done, what you will keep doing, and for not leaving. It wouldn't be the same without you, and that would be a tragedy.

I hope you enjoy Tower life with fewer responsibilities.

You've already heard everything I have to say on the matter at hand, so I guess there's only one thing left to discuss. Now that you've done all this, when're you going to Disneyworld?

Seriously though, life is change. I support you fully in this, as you're well aware. Anyone who doesn't can piss off. And long after this site is nothing more than dust and wayback machine archives, you'll always be welcomed at my door. As long as you don't turn into a raging pain in the ass now that you don't have to represent the good will of the site, at least. :hug

You're amazing, woman. :) I met you for the first time as you were taking this role, and I can't wait to see you again. You've always been an open ear and mind when I needed it, and I'm happy to see you stepping into another role that allows you to do all of the things you want.

:hug Bravo.

Amanda,
When you applied to be Keeper, I hardly knew you.
I knew that you served each position you took with incredibly integrity and reliability. I knew you were a problem solver. I knew that people who knew trusted you. And I knew you wrote a compelling and direct application. I didn't know *you*, though. While we were certainly friendly aquaintances, we didn't interact often.

Fast forward almost 5 years and you have become one of the most important people to me in the world. Aside from the legal and financial entanglements that are almost as crazy as being married to someone, you have also done me the great honor of becoming my First Sister. You were my Matron of Honor at my wedding. You have, over all this time, become not only important to this site... but undeniably important to me personally.

You know all that you have done for this community. And I think you know how very much you mean to me.
I expected to work closely with my Keeper when you came on board. I had no idea how much you would come to mean to me most fundamentally, both in this places development, and in my personal life.

I love you more than words, Amanda. :hug
