I am so sorry for your loss, with all the medical knowledge our society has gained life is still a fragile thing.

Thank you all and yes hats, blankets, octopus toys all welcome. I want to see about making gift baskets for nicu parents and for people with a loss like mine, if it weren't for the kindness of strangers he wouldn't have had an outfit, or a blanket or casket, so we want to help others in our situation and those who have it hard even though their baby is still here.

If you don't mind my sharing, things that were very welcome during our multi-month NICU stay included lip balms and hand creams (unscented), coffee pods, journaling and coloring supplies. Holiday items.

It's a wonderful thing you're doing for families, Alora Gaidin. :love

May his memory be a blessing.

I've had two premature sons. 30 weeks and 33-34 weeks. Both survived although when I had my oldest there was no treatment for RDS ( formerly known as Hyaline Membrane Disease). He was the 33-34 weeker.

I was born premature with two deflated lungs.. Children's Hospital in Little Rock saved me. I was blessed.

@Alora Sionn you already know how I feel but I am here if you need anything

The church my grandmother belonged to did a care package for soldiers and students. When I got mine they would have a bag of microwave popcorn, some candy, some random dollar store stockingstuffed items, and a juice box or something.

I was thinking about what people would use in a hospice or hospital situation based on my experiences and came up with the following:

-Handmade hats and blankets for the babies (the rule of thumb for charity knitting is if the hat fits a grapefruit it will fit a baby)

For the families:
-Nongendered toiletries including hair items and female sanitary items
-Craft and journal supplies
-Instant unflavored coffee with creamer and sugar packs
-Insulated thermos and Tupperware items for packing food
-Reusable picnic cutlery
-Water bottles?
-Book cards (Kindle, Kook)
-Fluffy blankets for the parents (waiting area air conditioning can get ridiculous)
-gift cards for Walmart or other department stores for unexpected stays
-universal electronic charge cord supplies
-hotel necessities?

Anything else?

Thanks for the list Nary, always looking for ideas for that :hug

The March is next weekend, we've earned enough for a custom sign along the route which I really appreciate :love

Our walk is tomorrow, if you can please consider donating even a $5 or whatever. Also, if you can't donate it would be great if you walked, ran, ride your bike etc either with charity miles for St Jude, or just let us know how many steps/ miles/ km in his honor, it would mean a lot to us :love

67.5-ish miles biked and walked for David :hug I say “ish” because sometimes I accidentally forget to turn CharityMiles off when I get home so I had to guesstimate a couple times.

Uninformed question: Are you continuing to track miles for future walks, or is it alright to switch to a different charity until closer to the next walk?
