Wow, so many replies. Thank you all!

Nice! What do you write, and what do you play?
To answer, at the moment my main project is a post-apocalypse story... to be honest, I do far more planning that actual writing, haha! The main games I play at the moment are Overwatch and World of Warcraft, but I often find myself going back to old favourites like Fallout New Vegas and Civilization 5. How about you? :)

Welcome! I've been playing a bit of Civ Vi lately  I've tried Overwatch but I just completely suck at it :P

Yeah, that bit about more planning than writing sounds like me too. I've been planning a trilogy of novels for over ten years now :P

I like your taste in games!

I love Overwatch! I used to play WoW a lot, but haven't in years. I've been playing some Diablo III lately, a LOT of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and also some VR games since I got a headset recently. I like games with good stories, so mainly RPGs.

Fallout games are fantastic, and I play Civ V sometimes too, though lately it's been Civ VI.

I do have Civ VI, I just find myself going back to Civ V. Maybe we three should attempt a game sometime? I didn't play WoW for around 7 years until Luna roped me back into it (she ropes me into a lot now I think about it... :arch)

I'm moving in 8 days, so I won't be able to play right away, but feel free to add me:

BattleNet: Anujun#1526
Steam: Anujun (http://steamcommunity.com/id/anujun/)

... Wow. This could be me.

To be fair, I am very close to being able to start writing. I just have too many hobbies >_<

OK, I added you! Although I am EU and you are NA (right?) so it might not show on bnet!

I sometimes think that... but then by the time I reach the end of one plan, I have a better idea and go back to change it!

I have another friend in the UK on my BattleNet account, though I'm not sure if his account is set to the EU or NA servers. I got your friend invite on Steam, but not BattleNet; I think I have to add you too. May I ask what your BattleNet name#number is?

That was me with my setting for a long time. I had characters and plot, and I couldn't decide what setting to put them in. Now I've figured that out, and I've got all three novels outlined. I've actually already written several chapters, so I just need to keep going :) My biggest drawback is that I have a lot of characters fleshed out very well, except for my protagonist. I figure I'll get to know her better during the writing of the first draft.

Oooh, wow! And yeah I'm sure you'll find a voice for her along the way and that sort of thing can be changed in a second draft. Actually doing that first draft is always the most difficult bit, so it's nice you've managed to get over that hurdle!

Yeah, it's a lot easier when you have something to work on to begin with, instead of a blank canvas that I personally just tend to kind of word-vomit over. :look:

I had never really thought much about writing novels, until a friend of mine told me how to win NaNoWriMo.

The problem is, outlining has never really worked out for me. The one novel that I'm most confident about, I've really just asked my characters where to go. :rofl They're a bit forceful in this setting.

That, I can sympathise with, as well. :pleased-1: The first time I tried NaNo, I wanted to lower the total word goal, because I was confident I couldn't do it. But somehow, I did. Nowadays, I'm trying to make myself feel like every month is NaNo month, to just keep up a continuous habit of writing at least a little bit every day. It doesn't always work, but I've been doing better lately.

I think if I did that, i'd burn myself out. :look: I'm generally on the road to healing my poor muse that was trampled by anxiety. :( We're getting there, though. :pleased-1:

I relate to this so much! I used to write a lot of collaborative fan-fiction, and as a result I got really good at taking existing settings and plotlines, and expanding on them in my own stories. It took a lot of work to create a whole setting and history from scratch, but eventually I got to the point where I was in my comfort zone with enough existing material to work on. Then I also had the benefit of being able to change that material if I wanted, and I love it :P
