New Kate Daniels book out tomorrow
It's waiting for me on my Kindle. Which is in my purse on teh other side of my office. Unfortunately I still have to (pretend) work for a couple of hours before I can go home and read. Evening shift tomorrow so I'll probably pull an all nighter if the book is good.
I have a Kindle app on my phone. Guess how much work I'm getting done today
And I'm done!
I kind of wished that I'd reread the previous book and novella before starting but once I had started there was no way I was stopping before reaching the end. I enjoyed the book a lot!
I'm interested in how they'll deal with Roland in the future. There seems to be two ways this can go. Roland is still evil but it seems that there's a possibility of an outcome other than Kate killing him. I'm surpriser at how much I like the separation from the pack thing, though I'll be sad if it means less Jim and Dali. At least Barabas and Derek followed them.
Some of the plots about the Guild seemed to get dropped. I wonder if they were deliberately left unsolved for the next book or if the author ran out of room. We never found out why whatshisface wanted money out of the guild so badly that he nearly destroyed the thing. I was also sure that Jim knew what Curran would do and offered the Guild to him on a platter. I was sure there's be scene in the end with him smugly going "just as planned" while watching Curran get all driven about putting the Guild back together.
It's good that Kate has mystical ties to the city with the rate she gets injured. It'd have become just too over the top at some point. Still might.
Why do I have to wait a year for the next book?
I did a reread last week - just of the Kate books in the series though.
I am so angry at Saiman. I don't know why I expected better of him.
I can't imagine Kate being able to trap her Dad like the djinn without going back to Mishmar for her grandmother's bones. And Roland watches her too closely to do anything like that. Maybe around the wedding? Since he'd be on her turf which would mean he can't access his land's power.
I was sad there wasn't a bit more Derek in this. He was there of course but no character development really.
Why did I not know about Magic Stars being released this week!!?!!
The first in a series about Derek! Ok there goes my Saturday
I only found out about it yesterday. Haven't bough it yet, I will later today. I was disappointed to find out that it's only 64 pages long. Also have to wonder about the series thing. Did they really start a new series? Or is it going to be a bunch of novellas and maybe a collection later? Does someone know?
I don't think of it as the first of a new series, really. They had an idea about a novella for Derek brewing (as per their blog, though not sure where - they write lots, and I read it all, and it was some time in the past). They also have their current secondary published series (Hidden Legacies) delayed due to RL issues resulting in delays and the Avon publishing schedule. We won't get White Hot and book 3 until 2017. My personal opinion is that they released this A) because they had it and B) because it would help them out with less being published this year.
I'd be tickled if they went off into a Derek series after the last Kate Daniels book. I mean, they're going to ten books with that, and have made noises about it being the end for Kate/Curran as leads. But they could segue into a series based on Derek, with Julie, and still within the same universe. So perhaps this novella is setting up things for down the line? /end of theorizing
That said, I did enjoy the novella. It was short, but good. I ended up reading it when it came out, as I just happened to be checking Amazon for something else and I tend to hop through author pages I like in hopes of deals. I read it over lunch and during my planning at school, and was done before I even went home.
Did you read the latest snippet? ooh!!!
Of course I did! I want a Roman spinoff one of these days.
Innkeeper #3, One Fell Sweep, is being released! Three parts out so far.
I found Illona Andrews a during the fall of 2014, and I really like the books (and I've been through more or less everything) I keep using my audible credits on these books, even though I don't particularly like their reader (they use the same for all series)...
Eagerly awaiting more Innkeeper parts. They're on chapter 5 now
Oh, while the conversation is all about the new WoT tv series, did you know the Kate Daniels TVs series rights have been sold to voodoo television?
It makes me leery. I'd probably watch it, if it materializes though.
I read their novella, Alphas: Origins yesterday. I wasn't sure what to expect, as it had lower reviews and even the authors said it wasn't their typical offering. But I enjoyed it well enough. Some pretty strong themes though, and violence.
I still look forward to Fridays with new parts of One Fell Sweep.
I love the Kate Daniels series. Haven't checked out the Edge yet. Still haven't read the most recent of the Kate Daniel's books but the last couple have been pretty epic.
One Fell Sweep was released today! As a whole book instead of all the parts.
And I must say, the expanded ending was nice. I especially liked the hints of more story to come!
I usually devour books in one sitting, but with this series I can't as it's released serially. I think the concept is kind of brilliant. I'm not sure if it would work for other authors, but for these two - it works for me.
Anyone else [strike]devour[/strike] read White Hot? Gah, I loved it. I'm also kind of glad Wildfire will be out in a couple months instead of a year from now.
I have not been reading much lately but I knew the book was coming out so I reread BFM last week. When White Hot delivered to my Kindle app after midnight on Tuesday I stayed awake until 5am finishing it. I've been catching up on my sleep since
It was so good! I see a lot of similarities between this and her Kate Daniels books so that I'm always surprised when Nevada does something not Kate like. I like it.
I was so tempted to do that! Stay up and read as soon as it appeared on my Kindle, I mean. But I'd had a long day, so figured reading it as soon as I woke up would suffice. Then, of course, I wake up randomly at 5AM-ish and started reading.
Then yesterday, because I was mildly bored, I re-read Steel's Edge, which lead to a re-read of Sweep in Peace and One Fell Sweep, because George.
...and they posted a spoiler thread on their blog for Wildfire discussion, so of course I read it and am now that much more anticipating July 25.
I'm a weak weak person who should really take a day off work when Ilona releases a new book.
