I usually just upload the avie I want from my computer and hit save. Not deleting or anything and it have been working just fine every time I do that.

Does mine show up for people? I've never had an issue changing my avatar before, it uploads just fine and shows up in my account for a while but nothing shows up for me in my posts. Then magically disappears from my account again. I have tried all the tips posted here.

Cassie: don't use Chrome, and upload a PNG file instead of a GIF.

I don't have any actual permissions to change anything yet, but I think I'm in the Tech department (I have the usergroup), so I'll fix change that if I can get access.

The whole process is my first thing I want to look into, actually.

I can fix you up tonight, Roheryn, but can you try one thing for me, please? Go in to My Account, click Edit, click Choose file (or whatever the upload button says for you) and pick your avatar file. Then, wait until the filename appears on the page and click Save. Also, what browser are you using?
