Hey everyone!

We have some opportunities open in the Department of Marketing on the Social Marketing Team! Please read below to learn more about the Department, the Team itself, and the positions available on the team. In regards to how many positions are open on each team, it'll depend on the number of applications that I receive from qualified applicants. I'm not going to turn someone away if they're interested and talented.

On the Social Marketing Team, we don't work in terms - if you reach a point where you feel like you need to step back, that's okay! I find that working in terms is a bit disruptive to the flow of things, but I am absolutely okay with any kind of turnover that happens. You and your life come first - this is a volunteer position, and I recognize that.

The Department of Marketing
The DoMarketing operates similar to the DoModerators - when you're a member of a team within the Department, you have access to everything in the Department. This is to encourage an open forum (no pun intended) where people can help out wherever they want. At the end of the day, everyone in the Department of Marketing is working towards promoting TarValon.Net to non-members and getting our name out there, so we all help out where you can. The culture is that if you can see it, you can post something.

The Social Marketing Team
We are the Social Marketing Team, but a majority of what we do is on Social Media. If you haven't seen what we do, please check out our Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest. As you can see, we post the same things across these platforms, and each platform has their own team of people who handle those posts, respond to comments, and provide feedback to the Social Marketing Manager as to what's working and what isn't on their platform, and we make adjustments accordingly. These people are called Social Network Moderators.

We also have a tumblr, but it's been a bit inactive recently. It is one of the positions that we're hiring for, so if you're interested, please look at that job posting.

In addition to the people that actually do the posting itself on Social Media, we have a Brainstorming Team that helps out with generating ideas for what to post, based on what's worked in the past. It's a bit more than just generating ideas, though, as there are often projects involved that may require more time. I'd share, but I don't want to spoil anything for people.

We also have a Media Liaison Team that communicates with artists, making sure that we have their permission to share their work, and to build a relationship with them.

Now, onto our open positions within the team!

Social Network Moderator - Facebook Commentator
I personally handle all of the posting and sharing to the TarValon.Net Facebook Page, but I interact mostly with the groups that I share our posts to on Facebook, not on our own Facebook page. This is where a Facebook Commentator comes in - you'll be responding to comments on the posts we make as TarValon.Net. @Nymala Ingasy is currently handling these responsibilities, so you'll be working closely with her. You'll also be responding to messages sent to us, answering any questions people might have.

Qualifications
  • This position doesn't really have "hours" that you'll need to specifically commit to, since you're going to be replying to comments on our page, but if you're on Facebook for a decent portion of the day anyway, then this is a good position for you.
  • You must have your own Facebook account. You'll be set up as a page administrator so you can comment as TarValon.Net, but you're still logged in to your own account.
  • Someone in a European timezone would be great, as we have someone that covers general American times, but this is obviously not a requirement.

Social Network Moderator - Instagram
@Relinya Ryviarra currently leads this team. We're fairly active on Instagram, posting every day. Generally, Relinya and her partner divide up the tasks. You'd be working pretty closely together in this position.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to dedicate 2-3 hours to the position per week.
  • Must be knowledgeable about Instagram and its culture. If you're unfamiliar, we can give you a bit of an intro.
  • A knowledge of hashtags is a plus.

Social Network Moderator - Twitter
We do have a Twitter account, but it's been inactive for some time. At the time that I took over the Team, we didn't have the people needed to run it, so it became a platform we didn't use. However, there's a huge following of Wheel of Time fans on Twitter, so we want to utilize that.

Qualifications
  • Must be able to dedicate 3-5 hours to the position per week.
  • Must be very knowledgeable about Twitter. You're essentially rebuilding us on this platform, so there'll be a bit more work involved in the first few weeks.
  • A fun personality is an absolute must in this role. Twitter is a very humorous place, and you need to be smart, witty, and fun. While you'll mostly be posting what we post on the other platforms, interacting in the comments is going to be where we are going to be interacting with the community as a whole, so we need to show that we're a fun community.

Social Network Moderator - Tumblr
If you looked above, you see that our Tumblr has been inactive for a while. We are working on transitioning our Tumblr to an account that would work more towards what we're trying to achieve on the platform. This means that the person in charge of this would be starting from scratch.

This position is a bit unique, because it runs independently from the other platforms. We don't post the same things here that we do on the others, because it simply doesn't work there. Tumblr has a very specific group of users, and a lot of them are younger. There's also a very specific type of humor and respect that's very prevalent in the community, so we need to make sure to adhere to that.

To be honest, unless we get the right person for this position, we may not continue with this platform, as it does have to be done in a specific way, and we don't want to do it "wrong".

Qualifications
  • Starting out, you'll need to dedicate 5+ hours to the position per week. After that, it'll probably go down to 3-5 hours per week.
  • You must have previous experience on tumblr. Please link your personal or group tumblr that you manage.
  • As with Twitter, a fun personality and sense of humor is an absolute must. You need to be a funny person, while still being respectful and tolerant of pretty much everyone. A lot of what tumblr posts is just word-vomit and stream-of-consciousness, and that's what we want to be doing. You won't be working as closely with the Social Marketing Manager in this role, and you'll be creating a lot of your own content (with help from the Graphics Development Team when you need it).

Brainstorming Team / Project Leads
For quite some time, myself and the Social Network Moderators have been coming up with what to post on Social Media. We've posted quotes, questions, trivia, fanart, and a whole bunch of other stuff. Some of it's worked, some of it hasn't. However, we're kind of at the end of quotes that people are interested in reading, we're out of questions to ask, out of trivia, and are running a bit low on fanart to post.

So, this is where the Brainstorming Team comes in. They're people that are knowledgeable about The Wheel of Time novels, the community, and have an active interest in promoting TarValon.Net and making us a place to go for nice graphics with quotes, some trivia, finding some content that we haven't shared yet, and work on some projects.

Things we're specifically looking for:
  • General questions to ask the Wheel of Time community.
  • Fun Trivia about the series - we'll be presenting these in "Did you know that..." format.
  • Prolific Quotes, either within the series, by Team Jordan, or about the series.
  • People who are interested in longer-term projects that will appeal to the WoT community.
Speaking of projects, we have some things in the workS that require a bit more manpower than we currently have. A lot of it will involve writing and summarizing. If you're interested in the position and would like to know a few more details, please reach out to me via email.

I'm looking for free-thinking people here. If you have a lot of ideas and energy and time and want to do something with all of that, this is the place for you. I'm not going to take every idea presented, because we may have tried it in the past and it didn't work, or it might not be a good fit, but I'm open to a lot of things.

Qualifications
  • Must be able to dedicate 2-3+ hours to the position per week.
  • Have knowledge of The Wheel of Time, a bit more than the "casual" fan.
  • Must be a creative thinker who's able to come up with ideas for fresh, new content.
  • Must be willing to do some research in the books to find specific passages, look for trivia, and look up some details

If you are interested in any of these positions, please email socialmedia@tarvalon.net, marketing@tarvalon.net, and keeper@tarvalon.net with the subject "Application - Social Marketing Team (Position) - Your Name" no later than JUNE 30TH. If you have any questions, feel free to ask them here or send me an email!

I look forward to hearing from anyone interested!

A little under a week to get applications in, y'all! You know you want to - you're already on social media all day, anyway.

All righty, everyone.

We received one application, and are needing some more assistance on the team. If you are at all interested, please apply. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask (either here or in PM). If you're not sure if you're qualified, please reach out anyway. I'm extending the application deadline to July 7th.

Thank you.
