Hiring: Master / Mistress of the Watch

The Masters/Mistresses of the Watch are the Director of Technology’s hands. The position has been updated, dividing the roles officially into the two that were already present and adding this new position: Master/Mistress of the Watch - Moderation in partial replacement of the Director of Moderators and Operators. This position is primarily responsible for managing the common area moderators and interfacing with the membership administrators who moderate their areas, to ensure fair and consistent moderation across the site. We’re looking for someone with experience in moderation, management, and interpersonal interaction. This person will also be responsible for the technical management of the Tower's official Discord. All of that said, the Masters/Mistresses of the Watch are expected to help each other out as needed, so experience with the technical parts of the role is also strongly desired. Some overlap in Linux Administration wouldn’t hurt, and the same with Forum Administration. Please note that discretion is an absolute must for this position. As this is a new role and during a time of flux, it will require more time up front and a clear idea of how you'd like to operate. You will be working directly with the Director of Technology, currently @Deoan Kakarot, for the duration of your tenure in the position.

Position Overview:

The Department of Technology exists to maintain our website and forums, and to take care of IT problems and/or projects as they arise, but are now adding general moderation to this. We are currently seeking a Master of the Watch to help meet those needs.

Requirements:

• Must be a member in good standing with TarValon.Net for at least 1 year, Senior Membership strongly preferred but not required.
• Must be trustworthy and organized.
  
• Must work well with others, and be able to stay in timely contact with the Director and fellow staff.
  
• Must be willing and able to frequently connect to, moderate, and manage Discord
• Preferred to be experienced in working with any or all of the following areas:
  • Coding / Scripting: HTML, CSS, jQuery, PHP
  • Web design / applications
  • CMS/forum software like xenforo
  • MySQL
  • Linux Administration

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Manage the team of common area moderators
• Interface with membership administrators
• Oversee moderation to ensure fair and consistent application of the Code of Conduct
• Be available to work on Technology issues and projects as they appear. The time commitment will vary week to week, but you should not expect to spend more than 10-15 hours per week working on any given project.
