Am I weird for being annoyed by this? It feels like they've been lying to build hype-- first it wasn't going to be a sequel, then it was but just a play, and now they're releasing it as a book too? It just screams money grab.
I'm kind of torn on this myself. On the one hand I was perfectly content with the story ending just as it did. In fact, I'd have been content without the epilogue. On the other hand, enough time has passed for me since the last book, and I could see myself enjoying a new and different adventure in this world. So I'll almost certainly read this one, and hopefully I'll enjoy it.
I'm less of a fan of the re-release of existing books in different formats ...
So...it's going to be a script? Not, y'know, actual novel format?
Well, yes, it is a money grab. If J.K. Rowling says that she's going to release anything Harry Potter, it's going to make a shitton of money, because... well, it's Harry Potter. However, it's not being released as a book in novel form. It's the script for the play released in book format.
I like re-releases if they add new content. Like the illustrated editions that they're doing now. They're friggin' gorgeous.
Fair enough! Gorgeous artwork is never a bad thing.
I will wait until the release before getting too excited about it...
I agree with you, the illustrated edition is really goregeous!!!
I bet there will be a lot of people that just hear "Harry Potter book 8" and then are super confused/angry when what they end up with is a script.
I saw some posts on facebook calling it the 8th Harry Potter book, and I think you are right Megana Sedai, they will be super confused/angry when it will come out
Ah, ok, makes more sense that it's just the script.
I think that it will be interesting because it will be just the script
Yeah. This is their way of going, "Look, we realize that there are literally a billion people that love Harry Potter, and not everyone can come to London to see the play, so here. Have this."
It works for me! Unless they end up filming the play and distributing it that way, I'm not going to have a chance to experience it.
I'm quietly hoping they film it and do one of those Fathom Events movie theater things, like they've done with some musicals.
Ooh I'd LOVE that! I would definitely go see it in my local theater.
it will be a wonderfull idea!! I too would go to see it in the nearest theater
Id be very surprised if they didnt film it and then sell it so people anywhere could see it.
Yeah, I am seeing a movie of this sometime in the future... But for now there is the theater and the script in book form
Good enough for me for now
I really don't care about the reason behind all this, I am just happy I will see a little more from JR's imagination in this play/script.
Oh, I'm one of those disappointed people who thought it was a whole new book I hope they film the play and distribute it to theaters at least. If they're wanting to make money that's a good way to go.
There are Harry Potter fans who will buy anything JK Rowling writes just in case the wizarding world is mentioned. Those people may be a little disappointed with her adult novels (I really enjoyed Casual Vacancy) but they will love reading a script!
