Okay so was in a mall today and saw a person who made personalized front plates. In our state we do not have to have the regular plate in both front and back. So I was thinking "OMG I would love to have a green aes sedai thingy on my front plate with a logo or something."

So I went up to the guy and asked him if he could do this. He said "sure!" and then proceeded to look up Green Ajah. It lead to a site where low and behold everything we have ever posted as "green ajah" on this site is up and running. From our pictures to also logos that were made for the site and for t-shirts and ajah logos! He was going to just print it out and put it on a plate for me and I said o_O..."I think that maybe some of those people who I KNOW made those logos would be pissed if those things were copyrighted. There was no copy right symbol but I recognized several of the artists that are here on the site. Darims were a few.

Is the "flame" copyrighted? What can I use and what can I not? Can I have permission from the artists on the site to have the logo on a plate? Do I have to order them from the site and do we have them? Maybe this should be moved to "Ask the White tower?"

I just know that I would hate to come to an event with my shiney new plate and a person go "Ummmm I drew that...where on earth did you get that?"

Thanks!

I would recommend emailing Marketing@tarvalon.net, officers@tarvalon.net, and maybe also legal@tarvalon.net with the website that our graphics were found.

A specific policy specific to this issue is in the works of being created, based on the results from the most recent Administration Meeting:
http://www.tarvalon.net/showthread.php?4677-Departments-of-Administration-Events-and-Marketing
Copyright Policy

A proposal has been submitted to the Executive team for review. At this time, the inclination is for TarValon.Net to keep full ownership of rights of graphics made for our website and items that represent us officially (event logos, Merit Badges, etc.). TarValon.Net would haveright of use for graphics that are offered on items in our Café Press store. Once the policy has been made official, it will be released to the membership.

I hope this helps. I'm sorry if I stepped on any toes. :embarassed:

This is not a license plate holder, but an actual "plate" that replaces the front plate of a car. The website was googled by putting in "Green Ajah". It even had a link to a personal green ajah's photo gallery...just shows what is on the website. It had "wen's" submission for a green ajah lady, a sword with Darim's colored wheel in the back, and other "graphics" It even had our own graphic that is on our tshirts and plate covers. What bugged me was this company person was willing to "size" the graphics posted without even checking if they were copy written. This even included the "green flame" that is on a Badaldi necklace!

Thanks for moving this. My question is now...should we put a copy right symbol when we do a graphic in case it gets posted on the web?

Miridy, can you give us the company website that came up offering to sell items with our graphics on it please?

A Google image search of Green Ajah does pull up our graphics, pictures from our members, etc. This is normal.

Yeah I have their business card. I will email you the information. Please know, and i will clarify, they are a company in the mall. They make personalized license plates for the front of cars. I wanted a picture of the flame with "Green ajah" on it, but truly didn't think about "copy right laws." The guy then googled "green ajah" saw the pictures and said "Yes I can resize these for you and make a plate." and was proceeding to do this when I then said "wait a minute," when he pulled up something that I knew was someone's artwork from the site and remarked "I don't know if these are copywritten, I would hate to pull up to an event and someone say "OMG that is my artwork." Whereupon he gave me his business card and said if I wanted a logo and such made, just let him know.

So that was the convo, hence my questions and will get you the information on the company. Thanks :).
