That is true Dried, but I'm convinced it's actually an error in the books. Just like Traveling is described completely differently, twice, in EotW than how it is in the rest of the series, this is the only mention of Wise Ones having the ageless look. They may have kept it in because there's a chance he's referring to someone still looking young while having the eyes of someone much older and knowledgeable ... which would also explain it.

Yes. I think there are definitely some inconsistencies that are due to some things being further developed beyond the writing of Eye of the World.

I assume you mean Ishy and LTT in the prologue?

Ish's traveling looks different because he's using the True Power.

Behind him the air rippled, shimmered, solidified into a man who looked around, his mouth twisting briefly with distaste.

LTT's traveling isn't broadly described, but there's nothing in it which means he's not using a gateway. It just doesn't say it outright

His children's faces accused him, blank eyes asking why, and his tears were no answer. The Betrayer's laughter flogged him, drowned out his howls. He could not bear the faces, the pain. He could not bear to remain any longer. Desperately he reached out to the True Source, to tainted saidin, and he Traveled.

The land around him was flat and empty. A river flowed nearby, straight and broad, but he could sense there were no people within a hundred leagues.

And Ishy travels in via a True Power gateway again.
On the island, the air shimmered and coalesced. The black-clad man stood staring at the fiery mountain rising out of the plain. His face twisted in rage and contempt. "You cannot escape so easily, Dragon. It is not done between us. It will not be done until the end of time."

Then he was gone, and the mountain and the island stood alone. Waiting.

The shimmering is what you get when you rip open a gateway with the True Power, he's RJs quotes on the matter below

The shimmering thing with Ishamael in the prologue of The Eye of the World was because of a True Power gateway!

Question (The One Power, the True Power, and channeling)
[Someone was nitpicking about the Eye of the World prologue, when Ishamael suddenly pops in. It was a ripple or a shimmer or something of the sort, not a 'gateway'. So, this guys asks what was up with that? Creative license? Had not established the magic of the realm yet?]

What do you think?
Fan Response

[The guy said True Power travel]
Robert Jordan

Yes. [Can't give you specifics of response, but he did say that it (True Power) was the reason for the difference in Traveling.]

I'm also referring to when Rand Traveled at the end of EotW. He was at the EotW, then suddenly at Tarwin's Gap, then back again. There is no mention of a gateway, and he isn't using the TP.

I wouldn't read too much into the Tarwin Gap business.

Lotsa funky stuff going on there, its like the whole being in the sky at Falme thing, its not explained very clearly to us.

You're right though, Rand wasn't using a standard gateway to get around at the end .

However its not so much a different between how Traveling works, but actually a separate method being used.

What that is I've no idea, but its probably something to do with TAR is my best guess.

It's interesting that traveling is accomplished different ways depending on which power is used. I imagine that everything is done differently. Saidar uses the least invasive way, while True Power does most violent way. Saidin is in between, using most forceful, yet not permanently destructive like True Power. Any thoughts?

Not too sure about The One Power, but this is what you look like after 800 years of using The Force:
